 ... I am so sorry .... you know what ... put something on him .... it helps .... trust me ...somebody told me to do it when Maya had to be with a lot less hair and it works .... Hope your Baby feels better too in no time .... and you too !!! |
Yorkie Grooming DVD Oh, one more thing. I purchased a DVD of how to groom a Yorkie, I believe it is produced by one of the YT members, and many own it. I haven't watched it yet, but intend to use it as a guide to do my own grooming on Tiki. Sorry I don't have a link handy right now, but when I get more time I'll look for one. Or, maybe one of the other members will send it. Good Luck. |
grooming If he was matted, shaving is about all a groomer can humanly do...I had to shave many..but got the owners permission first...if they did not agree and wanted me to yank and demat a coat for 4 hrs..I asked them to go elsewhere..painful to the Yorkie and EXPENSIVE. Dust your boy with baby powder to soothe his skin...he is upset because his mom is upset...buy him some cute tee shirts and brush him daily as his coat grows to keep himmat free..BUT if he has a soft, cotton coat, short clip is the only way to go IMO... Best wishes |
you Sometimes the best we can do is to "have a big mouth". It sounds to me like the groomer has lots to learn about her profession. The fact that she knew you would be upset but did not call you shows a lack of trust and a need for money on her part. Not good. The fact that she found critical things to say about your heart's friend tells you she has favorites and your dog can "know" that. Get thee to a new groomer if you try again is my opinion for what it is worth and....."have a big mouth " and let all of your friends know that you have little trust with that groomer and she is not professional enough to ever be entrusted with your heart's best friend again. I too would have been horrified especially in the additional comments. We groom our three. We bought a grooming table which helps at times if there is any matting. (Sometimes in the winter with a jacket matting can happen with the best of care.) Again, try to cheer a little because dogs know when something is a miss and your dog needs you now. Hugs to you my dear for trying to give your dog a positive experiance. |

And in case that doesn't work her homepage is here: Crown Royal Yorkshire Terriers |
The worst thing the groomer did was not communicate with you . Maybe she had valid reasons as to why she felt it was right to shave your baby, but not telling you? and listening to you or doing what you wanted is what bothers me the most. I am sorry you had to go through all of that. His hair will grow back fast, and since it is summer he probably feels better too. :aimeeyork Thanks for the information on the DVD . |

Well said - I agree. |
I have read that often the groomer sedates the dog...maybe that's way some are sleepy and tired acting when they get home. I will never take mine to any groomer, I guess I'm just overly possessive !! |
Thank you for all the posts. In answer to some of the questions. . .I did brush him everynight, for at least a 1/2 hour a night. . .I loved the feel of his coat, it was shiny, soft and silky. I guess my mistake was not following up with the comb. I am buying one tomorrow, even though I won't be using it for sometime, LOL!!! Leo's haircut is adorable, and thank you for sharing this. . . Leo has at least a month's worth of growth over where Barclay is right now. . .a month can't come fast enough!!! When I said down to the skin ALL over I mean down to the skin, and tonight while we were snuggling on the sofa he turned over for a belly rub and I noticed he is cut on his penis!!!! I thought he was licking himself because of the change, I think he has been licking himself because of the sore!!! She must of cut him during the shave!!! I am so angry I could scream!!! Should I put something on this sore or just leave it. I am going to be ever so careful about his new growth. . .I don't want him or I to go through this again. Tomorrow I am going to hit PetSmart and get him some cute little shirts to wear. |
I'm sorry you had such a dreadful experience with Barclay's first grooming. But he's a yorkie and adorable no matter what! I too have learned my lesson with groomers. One suggestion I would make when looking around for a groomer. Try and find one who comes to the house. We recently found a "Mobile Pet Groomer" and it was a great experience. She parked in our driveway and I was able to keep a close eye on what she was doing. Another good idea is to have a picture of the cut you want. :aimeeyork |
I can feel your pain! I know you probably don't want to hear another it will grow back but it will:) PROMISE!!! I can definetly feel your pain~I am so sorry. I took Pebbles to the groomer and didn't realize that she was matted since I was brushing her every day and giving her a bath weekly. Her hair looked very nice on the surface but around her neck she was very matted. The groomer said that little mats get tighter each time I was gaving her a bath and suggested a different type of comb and brush. I was using a people brush and comb and that is what caused our problem. Since then I purchased a real grooming brush, and 2 different combs and she no longer gets any mats and her coat is growing out very nice. Put him in a little tshirt and give lots of :hearts6: |
So sorry you had to go thru that experience and i have gone thru the same thing except I had taken him to visit his breeder and she was showing me how matted he was underneath and I though i had been doing a good job!! Well we agreed to shave him and although it was a shocker I realized it was for his own good and it grew back quickly and really nice!! so rest assure he will be cuter than ever before you know it...try putting on a cute summer tee shirt on him that will make him look cute and help get thru this difficult time!! Keep us posted on how he is doing!!! |

The hair will grow back. How did he get such a bad matt in the first place if you brused him regularly. I can understand being upset, but your dog is still alive and healthy and if you weren't crying he would probably be jsut as happy and playful as ever. I'm sorry if I sound heartless, but come on, it's just a hair cut. some people on here have lost their dogs, not just the dogs hair. |

Nevermind, I guess you did. |
I'm sure all will go well on Thursday. Call them and find out if there is a salve for his nick - ouch ouch - could be the licking is the best thing - poor baby. Send pictures so we can see him in his new shirt. It will be fine - hugs! |
Don't fret. Yorkie fur grows fast. I keep my furball in a puppy cut and she needs a grooming every 5 weeks. Before you know it, you will have plenty of fur to brush.:animal-pa |
I would say don't overreact towards your little one. They can sense your emotions. Just act normal and pet him all the same. It's not like he can see himself so he is only reacting from you. |
I found several bad mats on my yorkies Quote:

Soooo sorry this has happened! I know how upset I would be!!!:( |
I'm sorry you and your baby had such a bad experience. His hair will grow back and most likely be even better and silkier. I just had all the black baby hair cut from my 4 month old. The adult hair under the puppy hair is nice and silvery and silky. Much easier to brush. I had her face done in a little "Westie" type cut but had the groomer leave the top grow for a topknot. I have the groomer come to my house and I love it. That way I am right there when my dogs get groomed. |
Ya know, I often wonder why we seem to do so many yorkies at the groom shop I work at and I have come to the conclusion because my four are always there with me at work. It just INFURIATES me how some people will look at one tiny mat and shave the whole dog! Unfortuantely there really is no way to tell if you like a groomer with trying them out. And to the last comment that groomers aren't always nice with the dogs they groom. Unfortuantely that too is true with a lot of groom shops. If the groomer will not let you see their ENTIRE shop, STAY AWAY!!! A good groomer will let you see the entire shop and most groomers don't mind you watching either. Yes, you standing there does make your furbaby more wiggly and a little more difficult to groom, but a good groomer will understand your concern and not mind if you want to stand there and watch the first couple of times. I wish you luck in finding a new suitable groomer or learning how to groom your own baby! It really is easy with a little practice. :) |
How sad that the groomer cut so much off your puppy. You know it is not that difficult to remove a tangle, I used a little bit of frizzease once on a stubborn tangle, it came RIght out. It works great for Barbie dolls hair too, ooops different topic. I wish him a quick recovery from his spay surgery.:) |
Bad Hair cut Poor lil fella........ I too live in the Boston area and had a terrible experience, with a North Shore Groomer....but it wasn't the hair cut. The actual haircut was wonderful. It was Jack's back right paw. When I dropped him off for his first puppy cut, he went in healthy. Once I brought him home, I noticed he was limping. I picked him up to look at his paws and legs and when I touched his right hind paw, he yelped as loud as can be. I didn't like this very much. After a couple of days of still limping, I brought him to our vet. She said that his right, back, paw was injured during grooming. She said the groomer must have held it way to tight to clip the nails and caused it to be irritated and bruised. Needless to say, I never brought him back and phoned the groomer about his situation. She had the nerve to say that Yorkies are difficult to clip and she had to use force for her sake as well as his>>>???huh????????????? Well I showed her what force was in my tone. Be happy your furbie wasn't injured! His hair will grow back. Kat |
Hey....this thread is a month old.... How is the little fella? Is his fur growing back out some now? |
