Ears UP! My boy "Harry" who is about 7 months old just does not "Pop up his Ears". Can it be possible I have one who is just droopy now and later he will perk up? Our mixed Minpin Roscoe who is Harry's buddy is rather up set also! Is there Hope he will have errect ears? |
1 Attachment(s) I've often heard that a year was the cut off date for ears standing on their own because all the teething should be over by then. Is there any cartiledge in the tips of the ears? I ask because I have a tipflopper and one whose ears stood at a few weeks all on their own. Rusty, my floppy tipper was able to get his ears to stand for the most part as he got older, but the tips never stood as there was no cartiledge there. No bone, no stand. (now if he is running they are flying in the wind...I love to walk behind him because his ears bounce.....:yelrotflm |
Suzi was late in having her ears stand up too. Every now and then she will have one up and one down .It is the cutest thing ever. Sometimes, shaving the ears help, because they are weighed down . I also heard that people tape them up too. :aimeeyork |
My dog had floppy ears before I started taping and shaving them. I started taping his ears at five months. In three weeks, his ears stood up. I researched this topic on the internet profusely. I read that most Yorkies' ears stand up after using the taping technique before six months. After six months, the results were iffy. However, these are statistics, and ever dog develop differently. In addition, I read that one year was the cut off mark like what another Yorkie Talk member mentioned earlier. I am sure your dog's ears will stand up too. |
When I got my Jade she was 3 months old. She is 4 1/2 months now. Her ears were half up when we got her. Her tips werent up yet. They were actually very cute. I taped her ears a week after I got her. I only kept them taped at night and I only had to tape them for 3 nights and they have been up ever since. I think hers would of went up on their own but I just taped them anyhows and she didn't seem to mind at all. |
Muffin I was outraged when I saw the discussion about drop ears versus ears that stand up. I just lost my drop eared Yorky and there was no more beautiful boy inside and out. People always stopped to talk to him because he was simply so gorgeous and sweet. To imply that there is something less Yorkiy about a driop eared is ridiculous. Quite frankly, that is the way they were originally bred before the crazed desire to add ears that stand up. Actually, he was actually more calm and lovable than some stand up eared Yorkies. |
Just to be clear.... I think that all of us here think that all yorkies are beautiful whether they have "up" ears or "down" ears. My Max's ears where down when I got him and I finally taped them when he was maybe (i can't remember exactly)5 months old?? They came up after taping for a couple of weeks. Captain Jack is 11 weeks old and his ears flop at the tips, so I have been taping them at night only. When I take it off in the morning they stand up until about noon and then start to droop. If you want them up it couldn't hurt to try taping. I hope this helps! |
Ears Up I thank all of you for your comments, this was just a general question. I have seen quite a few yorks around our sub-division they have pointed ears, wonderfully behaved little guys for the most part. My "Harry" is not well behaved and I was hoping if his ears were up his attitude might change for the better. |
