Biewer Southern Style Most of ya'll know that I own a grooming salon. So that means that I spend a good portion of my day talking with clients. The conversation very ofter turns to what our dream dog would be. Well I always say that I would love to own a biewer one day. I pronounce it properly (it rhymes with diva) just like I learned from you wonderful yter's and a great u-tube video. Well I am in the south....so I usually get a strange look and a "why would you want a pet beaver" as a response. Then I have to explain what a biewer is. So I have taken to pronouncing so that it rhymes with view-er, for the sake of my sanity! Now I can skip the strange look and beaver comment and go straight to the explanation! Do any of you guys purposely pronounce it wrong sometimes to avoid confusion? And if so how do you pronounce it? |
The first time I called for an appointment for my biewers at the groomer--they asked the breed and I said biewer--you know the one with the furry tail pronounciation--the girl on the phone said: we don't groom beavers--call the LA zoo. We are still laughing about this .... |

luvnmymax, So, why would you want a pet beaver? ;) I love hearing these cute stories, keep'em coming! I say it like Diva and am always prepared to give the full explanation :D |
I pronounce it....bee vair. That doesn't mean anyone understands me any better...so from there I usually say he's a German yorkie |
I looked at a few places online and they all seem to pronounce it as "Bee-Vair" which could certainly come across as a fancy way to say "beaver" to some people...pretty funny, lmao! Here's an excerpt from an article about the history of the Biewer. Check out the same of the names of these Biewer ancestors! :D "On January 20th, 1984, the first blue, white and gold Yorkie, named Scheefloeckchen von Friedheck, was born to 1981 Dortmund Junior Champion, Darling von Friedheck and 1981 Dortmund World Champion Fru-Fru von Friedheck. This was the start of what is now known as the Biewer Terrier Breed." |
I cannot take one of my three Biewers anywhere without getting countless.."what breed is that" comments. I use to say Beaver...but quickly grew tired of the snickering laughs or blank stares. I now say Biew-er..like View-er. But in the end..I still end up saying..."A German Yorkie". LOL |

The other pronounciation I hear is Brewer--there is no R in the beginning!! I don't have a girl available right now but there are 2 litters planned for fall, so maybe then. I do have Imp (who will be small--possible stud) and Boo (for a pet) who will be looking for their homes soon. Pictures in the nursery and on the website. |

I don't have a clue how to say it, but your story brought a big smile to my face, beaver, too cute. |
Maybe we'll have a take off on an old TV show someday called "Leave It To Biewer";) |
