Cutest Pets 2008? Hi there, has anyone here heard of a book called Cutest Pets of 2008? A while back I entered Lulu into a contest and I'm glad to report she is in the semi-finals where I can wish a prize or cash. But they also want to print her picture in a book called Cutest Pets of 2008. And of course they want me to buy the book at a price of $69.95, which I'm not planning on doing but I can still give them permission to use her picture without the purchase. But before I give permission, I wanted to make sure it was legit. Anyone heard of it? |
can't help u there, but Wow...that's an expensive book. Hoping someone will know, for sure. |
Do a search for it on the Chapters or Borders websites. That should help you find it. |
Oh gees, that's exciting, congrats....can we see a photo you entered? |
I haven't heard of that particular book, however, my daughter writes poetry and had a very similar offer. Semi finalist in a poetry book...which we could pre-order or just give permission for printing. Permission was granted...but honestly I don't know if hers was ever included. I never heard back. I wondered if what really happened...was had I paid for the book...I was paying for her inclusion. |
I think that it is a scam. You should try googling it. |
The book will be legitimate but they will make their money from people like you who purchase it because their pets are in it. My Cassie was selected for the book a few years back but I figured it was a legal scam and did not buy it. I never saw it for sale anywhere else like Amazon. |
Yep, I've heard of it. They told me my dog won a spot in the book. So I sent them $30 to hold a book for me. Never heard from them since. Just don't send them any money and you will be fine. |
These are called "vanity" books, and you could probably get more information if you googled "vanity books". Years ago, a company made a "Who's who" type of book of different fields, and would ask an individual if they wanted to be included in the book, and of course if they would like to purchase a copy. If the company is legitimate, you would be included even without your permission, for example, if I'm writing a book on the ten best whatever, I don't have to ask them permission to use their names. In other words, it's just a way to sell a book. Someone did a similar thing with pond photos and everyone felt honored to be chosen, but anyone who bought a book would be "chosen." Also. I seriously doubt that all books have the same pictures, meaning you might be the only one that actually receives a book with your pet's picture. Remember those books a few years back, where they could add "your child's name" to the story. Similar idea, but people realized that their children's name was not in every book. That said, some people think it's fun, but I can think of a better way to blow $70.00 |
I googled it for you and I came across an Old English Sheepdog forum where another person was in the same situation. From the replies it looks like anyone who enters is a "semi-finalist" and if you buy the book they DO send a book, but it's full of bad-quality pictures. If you don't agree to buy the book, your pet is not in it. They make their money off every person deciding to buy a book with their dog's picture in it. Oh and they also run a "Cutest Kids" contest too. |
My daughter was scammed by one of those poetry sites too. I'd really look into it. |
1 Attachment(s) I tried googling it, and of course I got mixed reactions. Here is the picture I submitted: |

Are you trying to decide whether or not there is an actual book? My guess would be yes, but you are paying for her inclusion. I would doubt there are any actual prizes to be won though. |
i found this response on another forum that asked if this was a scam I have dealt with these idiots before. They also run a photography site and go under the name of International Library of Photographers, ephotograph.com, Picture.com and thephotosite.com I know there are more.... I was so excited to find out I was a semi-finalist and that my photo would be in a book. I actually thought that I had some chance of winning something. But it turns out that everyone that enters gets into the semi-finals. So before I knew that I ordered the book....which took a year and a half to arrive. I was VERY disappointed as 90% of the pictures should not have been in the book. They were totally out of focus, peoples head were cut off. This is a money making scam for them. If you pay them, you will get a book with your picture in it. If you search the isbn# I guarantee you will not find that book. They are also notorious with using peoples photo's without consent to publish them just to fill up their books. I believe this company also runs the cutest kid contests too. If I paid a few hundred bucks I could get an award, trophy....etc and you can become a member of their club. |
I would be careful with that. I have had emails before where I have submitted pics of my babies and they send you a email wanting you to buy the book. Sounds like a scam to me. |
