You can usually buy the pup-peroni treats anyplace. Pet smart has them, some grocery stores have them, Wal-Mart and Target will have them. They are easy to find. They are soft, long tube like treats that have notches in them where you can break them off. They have them in different flavors but Roxie prefers the beef although she'll settle for the chicken. Haven't tried any other flavors yet. |
glad that you were ablr to get your refund and found a class and trainer that you will be happy with. Good luck. |
i took lily may to puppy class. first thing the teacher did was tell the people with big dogs not to let their dogs intimidate the little ones. she didn't want the dogs to play with each other before or after class. she said she didn't want them to associate the class with play time. but she was real good about the larger dogs around the smaller ones. |
How did Pebbles new puppy class go? |

I hope that your new class goes well both for you and Pebbles. I was going to tell about a book that helped me out a lot, Little Dogs: Training Your Pint Sized Companion by Deborah Woods, it has quite a few tips and tricks for training the lil dog!;) also, I have a very picky Chi who will not accept any sort of ready made treat. Here's what an old trainer told me to do, take weiners- either regular, beef or turkey and slice them up thinly then quarter each slice, place in a single layer on a baking sheet and lighty sprinkle with garlic POWDER-not garlic salt, broil long enough for the bits to begin to sizzle, remove, cool and use as needed. Refridgerate-will keep for up to a week. Finally, heres one more thing I've used: Training Plans home good luck, I can't wait to hear how Pebbles likes the new class!:) |
Have a great time, it sounds like fun! |

I have foudn that pebbles really likes the pupperoni treats actually which is great, but i have to break it down very small for her or she gets full quickly. im sure a very small amount of these hotdogs would lure her with the strong smell  |

dog trainer at petco When I took my dog to puppy class there were all kinds of dogs, big and small. However, the teacher made sure everyone had their dog under control. At first I was a bit leary about it, but she didn't let any bigger dogs jump on mine. My dog and everyone else's learned pretty quickly. I would take my dog out of that class if the teacher didn't make those dog's come under control. I think the trainer is too wimpy. The trainer I had didn't take any crap from any dog! Good luck. |
I have a trainer from Barkbusters who comes to your home and works with you and your puppy one on one at 10 wks or older. It's not cheap, but she comes whenever we have a problem and it's a one time fee for the life of the dog even if the dog gets a new owner, as long as you follow their instructions and practice daily. By the way, praise is used as a reward instead of treats. I feel as if we got our money's worth because unlike the Petco or Pet Smart experience, she was focused on my dog alone and how WE interact together for more than an hour each time she came and she saw the behaviors that needed attention and was able to address them in training. She was very good at training US as well.:animal-pa |
I sure hope you find the best of the best for your baby:aimeeyork:thumbup: |

My cousin had a tea cup poodle. She also owned a shihtzu. One day while she was sitting at the table the shihtzu growled at the tea cup poodle--both were under the table. The poodle got startled and hit her head on the table leg and died! Tea cup puppies are VERY fragile and that trainer sounds really stupid! I would quit immediately! Get back your money! No large or medium dogs should be jumping on a little yorkie. I called the AKC and they are having conformation classes at a park. They charge $7 per class. They also have obedience classes. I would email the closest AKC club in the area and find out what obedience classes they have. They even said (in South Florida) the woman who teaches conformation classes allows mixed breed dogs in it. |

As I am a trainer here are my thoughts. Fired THe trainer now. Any time you feel a trainer is endangering your dog you are right and have the right to tell them NO ! and you know I rarely use NO!. Most of Petco " Trainers" are just in the learning stage and there be not a chance I let them near my dog. There is never any reason to touch a dog push or shove to train. There are tons of other ways to get a dog working without using food. Never if a dog is concerned about another dog is there ever a chance they will get over it. Social skills are much needed but getting over it not soical skills. Fire the trainer now... If you let me know where you are I can TRY and find a postive based trainer...... Just send me a PM and I get back to you on if I can find you someone. JL |
I certainly wouldn't go back. Surely she realised exposing Pebbles to bullies (The great big dogs) could traumatise her. She won't learn to sit there either there's far too much going on. Do practice at home love. Katie is very wary of big dogs as one rolled her over in the park when she was smaller. Suzi on the other hand, is not frightened of dogs big or small yet and I hope she never will be. Mine are socialised in the park where I can supervise whether or not the bigger dogs get near them now. Find another trainer if you can love, and go and see for yourself before you take Pebbles.
