advice on adding another baby Hi. I have not posted on the site before. So I apologize if this is not the correct way to ask a question...:0) I have a 4 lb. male yorkie named Sam and he is 5 1/2 months old. He is just a wonderful little guy and has stolen our hearts. We are now considering a 2nd yorkie and are looking at a little girl born 4/19. My question is: How do they react when a new baby comes home? Is it better to add another male?? Should I wait a little longer?? Thought maybe some of you with more than one baby could guide me!! Thanks Sam is not my first dog, but he is my first yorkie and I admit I want more!! |
When I got Jasmine, Sasha started to treat her like a little sister! She will protect her, and they play alll the time. I don't think it will matter rather it is a boy or a girl.Welcome and good luck! |
welcome to YT! |
i find that when you bring home puppies around the same time its a lot easier than when you wait...but that is jmo. Although it is twice the work for you but in the end they 2 are a lot closer...hehe |
Welcome!! I have added 4 puppies to my home in the past 3 years and have had no problems. I had a 8 year old pom when I brought home Cali. Then when Cali was 1 1/2 i brought home Pixie who was 13 months and she just fit right in, Then I got Dixie (RIP) who was 6 months from the same breeder as Pixie a year later and we didn't know it at the time but she was sick and was only with us 5 short weeks, but from the second we brought her home the others just loved her and stayed right by her crate, I think they knew before any of us that she was sick. Then the breeder gave me Roxie who I got in April at 4 months and her and Pixie play fight and pick on Cali but they all snuggle together. I think especially since your baby is still so young her will love a playmate. Keep us posted. |

Congratulations on you new little one and Welcome to Yorkie Talk! |
Aww! Congratulations. I just got my second Yorkie Axl home Wednesday and he and Jeter made fast friends. We are also getting a little girl, Yumi Yasha, and she will be home August 9! So I am so excited and thrilled to go from 0 to 3 Yorkies in less then a year after wanting one for 10 + years! I brought Jeter home in November and I knew right away that one was not going to do it for me:rolleyes: |
Congrats! |
I took Bernie with me to pick out his little brother. They played together at the breeder's house and got to know each other a little bit before we got home with his little brother. They adore each other! |
My yorkie Kati of 14 months is a changed dog since we got Suzi. They play together all the time, eat together and sleep together. The first couple of days Katie growled if Suzi took her food but now they share everything. Hugs Shirl x x :wavey: |
