Prickle and cut! Jojo was just at a bar b que and went into the woods and got all of those sticky prickly things in his fur....I just took him home and I don't know how to get them out, I cut out a few and I cut his skin by accident, i am flipping out I don't know what to do now...He keeps licking at the cut and I don't know how to treat it or get the prickly things out, there are up against his skin :( Help! |
i cant really visualize "prickly things"...lol...... but conditioner is GREAT for getting out stuff liek that |
prickles hehe They are sticky green little balls from a plant. They are all fuzzy and get in the fur real good... I don't know what they are called?? |
I believe they are called burdocks. They are like velcro balls. My cat gets them all the time from going outside and all you can do is carefully rip them apart and pull them out little by little. what a pain it is. Sometimes they get really bad and we have to cut them out or even use the clippers. Good luck. |
Ouch...poor baby - I'm wondering if you could try Baby Oil to work them out - and also - keep an eye on the cut for infection.....My girls got into some of those of all places - the VET ...it was AWFUL to pull them out - I would take each one and gently pull it - it tool a few hours but I got them all - no sizzors...no clippers - just fingers. If you have too many - maybe trying oil and combing them out if you can ? That's awful - those things can get everywhere ! Good luck |
About all you can do is carefully pull a little piece of hair out at a time. They are a big pain in the butt to get out. |
Also please make sure that his cut is properly cleaned out, you do not want it to get all icky! Sorry this happened sounds like a real mess! |
Rio has come home covered in these, the easiest way i have found is to wet the dog like in a bath, condition heavily and comb them out. I feel for you, they are a big pain. |
Tiki would occassionaly get into them and the finger pull works the best! She once got them all over her face, I was a wreck, but she was so docile and quiet, she just let me help her. Tiki was an angel! |
Poor Little guy. I hope you get to remove them easily. Also clean his cut very good and check him to make sure doesnt get infected. Good luck. |
Yep, Bo and Woody have had those too. I hate those. I did exactly what they said above. One by one, a few hairs at a time. It's such a pain when they're right next to the skin. Poor thing, I know you felt horrible when you cut him! Hope he's OK. Let us know. |
He's Ok Thank you all for the advice! I used olive oil and a comb and I worked them all out (had to yank out some clumps of hair :( ). There were about 30 of them! It took me about two hours including the breaks... I also cleaned out his cut and gave him a bath to remove the oil. He is all clean and I forgot to mention that he was GROOMED yesterday!!!! Ooh I was so mad about that...Figures!! We were at a bar b que and there was a Boxer/Bulldog mix named Porkchop there...they got along wonderfully! At least he had a fun day besides that incident. I NEVER let him off the leash, this will teach me a lesson for the future! |
Im glad that he is ok and that you got all the prickly things out. I bet you were so mad since he was groomed yesterday. Im glad that he had fun with Porkchop. By the way I love that name for a pup. |
