Two puppies at once? We have two puppies 9 weeks old both from same litter one male and one female. They say never get two at once because they bond together so strongly and not as much with there owner. Well I have separate play times with each puppy to get a bond with them. They sleep in the same pen but with a barigate in the middle to give them there own bed and space. They eat together. They do have play time together seems just a bunch of play wrestling and biting of course. What do the rest of you two puppy owners do? |
I have two pups. I got Jewels our second one when Chachi was three months old. They bonded well with each other but also bond with the family. Jewels has a preference for me where Chachi prefers my husband. I think it was nice having two except for potty training which was more of a challenge with two. Good luck. |
I have a 9mo old yorkie, and a 4mo old toy poodle. I got them about a month apart. They are joined at the hip, but they are always wanting attention from me too. It works out really well. I make time for them, but they also find time for me too--Oscar (yorkie) is always following me around the house, and Bingley (poodle) insists on sleeping in the bed with me. I love having two puppies at once--life is never boring with them in it. I also have an older rescue dog--he's "grandpa" to the pups. When they get rowdy, he just gets this tolerant, patient look on his face...it's so cute... :) |
I have a brother and sister pair that came from the same litter (7 months old) and although they are close to each other, they are both very bonded with me and the rest of my family. I have never noticed any problems with having the two of them together. I don't separate them at home- I do take turns taking them to special places outside of the house, but that is because we have a total of 4 dogs so everyone deserves a little special one-on-one time. When we had Leo neutered, Mia was lost without him. It took her a couple of hours to realize he was missing  , but then I did notice her looking for him and then sulking several times over the course of two days. |
Pairs I have two girls who are 10 weeks now..plus I have raised many siblings. You are doing all the right things..hopefully they will have long life's together. I find when one loses a life long sibling it is harder for them..but a new puppy always seems to bring them around. |
I always let my puppies live together , I never seperate them . They bond with me . |
Sounds like you are doing some things right but maybe worrying a bit too much. Yes, they will bond with each other first--they were puppies together; yes, they need separate time with y'all but those babies need to sort out which of them is the alpha and how they relate will be determined by their understanding of their positions. We cannot micro-manage (I am not saying you are, but making a general observation,) or we will have very neurotic dogs. My big reason for telling people not to buy littermates is because they carry the same genes for problems and when one gets sick, most likely the other will have the same problems at the same time. My friend who writes the pet column for our paper says that she will never have littermates again. Her dogs were and they got sick and bothdied within 3 months of each other. She was totally devastated... |
