[News] Yorkie Stolen from Pet Store Returned Because of Microchip A 36-year-old Yorktown man accused of returning a stolen puppy to a pet store in November because he found out a microchip was implanted in the canine surrendered this week to authorities, police said. Scott Day, of 620 E. Main St., had said he purchased the Yorkshire terrier from someone who said he couldn't keep all the puppies from a litter, police said. The pup, worth about $1,800, was reported stolen from the Pet Co. at the Jefferson Valley Mall on Nov. 25. It was returned to the store the next day. Detective Patsy Perrotto identified the man who sold the dog as Raul Santiago, an employee of the pet store. Santiago was charged Feb. 25 with felony grand larceny. Police said further investigation revealed that Day bought the pup knowing it was stolen and returned it when he learned that it had an implanted medical microchip that would be activated upon examination by a veterinarian. Day surrendered on Tuesday and was charged him with felony possession of stolen property. He was arraigned by Town Justice William Gerstenzang and sent to the Westchester County jail in lieu of $100,000 bail. http://www.thejournalnews.com/newsro...0814puppy.html |
What a coincidence that this man is from "Yorktown," of all places. |
My daughter owns a sports bar/restaurant in Kentucky and tends the bar there several nights a week. Recently, a bar regular who has a bad reputation came in and offered to sell her a Miniature Pinscher puppy he had with him for $100. She just KNEW that the guy had stolen the pup somewhere, so she paid him $100 and took it home, where she immediately called the police and animal control in her city and reported the whole thing. On the fourth day, the real owners called her and very gratefully reclaimed their beloved family pet. They even gave her the $100 she had paid. Incidentally, my daughter raises Great Danes and is the Great Dane Rescue for Kentucky. She has always had BIG dogs! But this little tiny pup stole her heart and she says that some day she is going to have a Mini-Pin of her very own. I plan to have Higgins chipped when they neuter him. |
Wow! Dognappers are evil! Great thing your daughter did Higgin's Mom! Hopefully they put away the guy that stole the poor pup! |
