Tails Docked, what is the latest they....
 

should be docked. i have found an 8 week old girl that is great. i do prefer the tail docked but i dont want to harm the puppy either.

Its too late now with out putting it thru a lot -
It is usually done when baby is 3 to 5 days old - the fact it wasn't done strongly suggests this is a back yard or uninformed breeder that thought it would be cute to have a litter of puppies - its why i get upset when someone decides to have puppies just to have "the experience " or to make money :thumbdown OK i vented :D now i'm done - but don't hurt that baby by doing it now - either love it with a long tail ( which can be cute ) or else find a different baby to love.

I wouldnt get it done at that age it iis an amputation. Its usually done when they are only a few days old. I dont think it is worth putting them through the pain they would have at an older age

Tail docking should be done in the first few days, otherwise; it's painful. Many people prefer the full tail, and some countries have banned tail-docking altogether because so many home breeders did it wrong, or later than the recommended time. However, it's still a requirement here, if you are going to show your Yorkie.

ok ill love her with the full tail, yay ! I was just asking, im perfectly ok with the long tail just prefer it stubby . thanks for your post . now a name for her. arggghhhh

Here's my list of, so far, unused girl names. I just thought I'd offer them to get you going. Don't feel bad about preferring the docking either. I'd dare say most of us, in the U.S. anyway, prefer it, if for no other reason than that's what we're used to seeing. I much prefer it as well but, like you, if I found a pup I really clicked with and knew it was love, I'd love her, long tail and all.

This is a very general statement to make as far as docking is concerned... Like was said earlier than my post a lot -most from my understanding- of countries no longer permit the docking of tails or make it optional even in the show ring. There is no reason that as a pet the tail of a yorkie must be docked. I had a cocker spaniel who did not have his tail docked until very late in his life (this was not done by a vet but by a groomer without permission). Still, despite the fact he passed ten years ago I am still very upset that his beautiful natural tail was removed. I am not for or against docking but I am upset that you would lump breeders that do not dock into the backyard breeder category. I know several breeders of other breeds that are normally docked that do not do so with their "family pet" puppies. It is a very small window in which to make that decision but they breed very carefully and for specific traits as any responsible breeder should do. Many of them have been breeding for 10+ years and only look for show quality when one is being sought after and still adhere to their breed standard, except for docking regularly.

To the OP it is too late for docking to be done. I have never known anyone to wait past 5 days... Many are nervous even on the 5th day to do it as it is a painful thing to have done. Not that it can't be done by a vet, though most will try to convince you otherwise. I am sure it is cute none-the-less.

My Lil Bit has a tail. when he was a newborn he was far to fragile to put through the tail docking. I recently had him neutered and was going to have it done then, but it would have meant he would have had to be anesthesised for an hour longer and with his heart murmur it would have been risky. So he gets to keep his tail. :Puppy2:

The comment was uncalled for and unecessary and completely untrue.

I've got mixed feelings on tail docking since one of YorkieTalk's UK members linked some pictures of back-yard breeder's tail docking results. It's a relatively simple procedure, however, some knowledge is needed to be done correctly. It's so sad that people don't realize breeding is more than putting two dogs together. After man domesticates an animal, it needs human intervention in order to survived properly.


Many things goes into someone being called a back yard breeder, but some people believe that not breeding to standard and not following the guidelines set forth by the YTCA qualities someone for that name.

after talking to the lady and seeing the mother of my puppy, which has a tail. i felt better . she didnt want to and couldnt bring her self to it. whether i believe that, maybe its extra money. she bred her with her sisters boy, which was docked. eaither way i am happy and i'll send pics soon. plus she can sweep the kitchen with the bushy tail:eek:
