Save the Flip Flops!!! Spicy has eaten countless flip flops this summer. The house rule is to put them away the second they are off your feet. But, with 3 children...the youngest being 4...this doesn't always happen. Any suggestions on how to train Spicy to not eat the flops? He roams the bottom floor of the house when we are away and that is when he will chew any stragglers he finds. :) |
May be easier to train the kids to put flip flops up on top of something. Puppies are hard to train not to chew because of their little toofers! Good Luck! |
Put them in a closet? Basket? Box? |
Have you tried spraying them with bitter apple or "Yuck"? It's worth a shot. |
Ohh, I missed what you said about your kids. Sorry. |
I wish I knew the answer to that, as well as how to get the kids to remember to put them away. LOL Kyle, I thought your avatar was on my screen... cute LOL |
I've never tried the bitter apple on them. I may do that. I thought he'd be better this summer...he's almost 2 but he still loves to chew them up. We have shoe baskets. It's just a toss up on who will train faster, Spicy or the kids! :) |
I bought mine a pair of rubber flip-flops of her own in a tiny size. :D I'm not any help, am I? |
There was a flip flop casualty at my house today....the exact pair I planned on wearing. |
I got a shoe tree when mine were younger and put it by the door and as soon as we came in the door we put our shoes on it including my daughter. Now that mine are older they never chew up shoes but when they were younger they liked my daughters shoes |
Spray the flip flops with Bitter Apple. It works for all my shoes. The bitter apple dries and the shoes taste aweful to dogs. |

Just realized...if I throw them away...I am an accessory to the crime. |
Roxy doesn't eat them, but she shakes them to death. She killed my dtr's prized pair of Rainbows. She is absolutely posessed when she attacks one. Pretty scarey! |

I had a little chihuahua when I was a little girl that would hang on the back end of the flip-flops as I was walking. It was so funny! She left a million tooth marks in them.:D |
All our flip flops have a million tiny tooth holes in them. I don't have any small kids, but DH and my 15yr old were hard enough to train. We throw them over the baby gate into the kitchen where they are safe. (the flip flops not the fur butts):D |

Bailey loves to chew flip flops :D |
Wenny decided that she was going to make a chew toy out of my favorite pair of flip flops a few weeks ago. Did I learn my lesson? Ohhhh no...a few days ago I woke up to a completely destroyed pair. Now, they all go into the closet ;) Ashley |
oh how well I know this problem Bella decided she liked my rainbows better than me,I fell asleep on the floor one evening and well when I woke up she has eaten one of my rainbows up,so much for the best most expensive pair of flip flops I had ever bought, I could not believe she ate them and not my old cheap ones LOL:D |
Can't blame the dogs.....they are just chewing what was left out. But now I have no kids at home to worry about doing that. But I have one large hubby that can't put his stuff up and wonders why its chewed. His caps, his shoe laces and may other things. But the troube is its easier to train kids than a hubby. Sorry guess that wasn't much help either. |
Leo like to go after flip flops and the kids crocs. They are made to walk to their rooms then take them off and close the doors. If they don't follow the rules it is on them. The pup is still 11 months old. I explain he is like a baby, still learning and it is up to them to help teach him. :) |
Well ... you have 2 choices .... spray the Flip Flops ore teach your kids to pick them up .... ;) Mine learned the hard way with her Barbies .... Maya kept biting them ... so instead of teaching Maya not to do so .... I told my daughter to clean them up ..... |
And it sounds like I should be happy that Spicy usually only eats the cheap Old Navy flops and not mine that are a little pricier! I really do think I will try the bitter apple. How many years do you think he will be a chewer like this? |
Guess I need to yell at ME....to put flip flops away. Another casualty here...a pair of mine, EXPENSIVE, and worn ONCE. |

The bitter apple worked for me when TJ decided to trim my plant. He won't touch it now. From the sounds of things.. you may want to buy shares in a flip flop store.. they may give you a discount. :) |
