Swollen Tear Gland... Hello, My 9 month old yorkie named Token is currently suffering from a swollen tear gland. The vet gave me some like cortisone drops to put in his eye for 7-10 days, but it has been like two weeks with little improvement. He also informed me that this was probably a cause of his allergies. Is this a common thing in yorkies? Has your dog experienced this before, or do you know of a dog who has? If his eye does not get better, the vet says that he will need surgery to remove the tear gland. That REALLY scares me!! Help me please.... |
I've never heard of it before, but that doesn't mean anything even after a lifetime of having tiny and small doggies. It could just be clogged. If it were me, I would inquire where the closest eye specialist is from where you reside. I would do this before allowing a regular vet to do this kind of surgery when it could possibly be something else entirely. Let us know how it goes.:) |
Im sorry to hear that Token is having problems.. I hope it gets better soon. As far as the swollen tear glands, I have heard of it before. My baby who is 9 mos as well, had a problem with her eyes not too long ago and the vet checked to make sure she was producing tears.... she ended up having what is called ectopic cillia, which is basically eye lashes that grow through the inside of the eyelid. So I went through alot with that, the eyedrops and all and she ended up having a procedure done to fix it. She is fine now! I unfortunately dont know much about the tear glands issue but, my encouraging words for you are to not be scared of surgery or a procedure she may need. I would get at least two opinions and take her to an animal eye specialist as well! Also, if she need something done check diff specialist as far a price wise. Some try to charge and arm and a leg for the same exact procedure..... Good Luck with everything! Keep us posted! |
