Ckc? Hello, I just bought my 10 week old baby, and she is "CKC" certified. I am not 100% of what that entails, but I know it is the Continental Kennel Club. My other Yorkie is AKC certified, but can anyone tell me the difference? What differs AKC from CKC? Any opinions? Thanks in advance! :) |
I'm interested in having the answer to this myself. Mufasa is CKC registered but I've only heard of AKC. Can't wait to hear what the difference is. |
I could be totally wrong here, but isn't CKC the Canadian Kennel Club? The only difference is what country they're registered with. |
CKC stands for both Continental Kennel Club (in the US) or Canadian Kennel Club (in Canada). I believe the standards for CKC (US) are not as tough as the AKC, so it may be easier to register with them. I don't think they require testing, etc. |
When the AKC cracked down on breeders, many had to leave and these alternative registries popped up. Some of them took legitimate sounding names and even used the initials of other legitimate clubs, for example the Canadian Kennel Club is the AKC equivalent in Canada. However, the other CKC is the Continental Kennel Club, and they will register dogs that aren't eligible for AKC, as well as mixed breeds. The AKC is the only registry that does routine unannounced inspections as well as DNA testing. This is not to say that all breeders with the AKC are good, but that the AKC is trying to get rid of the ones that are the worst. For more information on the different registries see: Registries |
