Is Your Yorkie Lonely? Sometimes I get the feeling that Yoda is lonely being an only child. Yes, he gets doubly spoiled and get a LOT of attention, but he ALWAYS wants to play! Even when we are working, or even after we take him for a long walk or play activity. We have been thinking about getting him another little Yorkie brother... still not sure yet, though... If you have a ONLY Yorkie child, does your Yorkie get lonely? What do you do when you can't give them the attention they want? |

Thank heavens for Pogo! He is Higgins role model and company. And ol' Pogo is enjoying having Higgin's company, despite the dirty looks he gives us. He is even playing with Higgins now. But sometimes Higgins wants OUR attention, and he just sits right in front of you and barks. Who can resist? Good thing we're retired. Like you, Bettyeanne, I have a bed or blanket for Higgins in every room. Mostly he is just happy to be with us and plays very well on his own. We have a HUGE low basket of toys in the living room and they LOVE digging around in it for their favorite toy of the moment. After a couple of hours, toys are all over the house! I pick them up a couple of times a day because they seem to enjoy getting them from the basket. The other day, Pogo was mad at Higgins for something and paced up and down in front of the basket and wouldn't let Higgins have even ONE toy! It was soooooo funny! I didn't interfere because Pogo is doing a pretty good job bringing up the little guy. |
Hahah, Pogo and Higgins seems to be quite the duo! I just hate seeing Yoda bark at me for attention, then when I give a stern NO, he'll put his lil' head down and walk away, looking depressed. Usually, he'll just go find a pillow to lay on. He sure knows how to lay down the guilt trip, he's mastered it! |
I personally couldn't handle two Yorkies, unless the second one was exactly like Otis. My first Yorkie, Archie, was a nightmare. He peed everywhere and cried all the time. He humped everything and chewed up furniture. He had eating problems and costed me a fortune at the vet. Otis just seemed so easy to be with from the start...and I couldn't imagine interrupting our serene life with a puppy. I wouldn't want Otis to feel threatened, and I want to make our life together as happy as possible. Otis's little brother (same sire) would stay with us for days at a time, and I would start to notice Otis (wow, I rhymed) isolating himself...hiding under the bed, etc....so I think Otis is better off being an only child. He's a momma's boy. |
Whatever happened to Archie? Yoda has Momma's Boy tendencies as well, but he is just so darn playful!!! Quite a handful when I'm trying to do ANY type of work. :P |

I'm sorry to hear Junebug! May he rest in doggy heaven! |
Thanks! Have you thought about maybe rescuing a Yorkie? Here's a site I like to visit on occassion: YTNR It's the Yorkshire Terrier National Rescue website. Check out the available rescues and the adoption stories. |
No, actually haven't. I do remember seeing that site before in my Yorkie searches pre-Yoda. Thanks Junebug, I'll keep a lookout! There's some sad stories on there! |

Thanks for the link ... I will certainly pass it on to everyone who says to me "I want one just like Toto"!!! :) Each one is so unique ... almost like you are handed a little "kit" and you "build your own" Yorkie!! |

Then I start forwarding pictures to my aunts and everyone, saying "SAVE THIS YORKIE!" I actually helped YTNR before by transporting four older "mature" Yorkies across the state so they could get medical help. It was fun! I had to borrow my dad's car because I couldn't fit four crates in my car! This was all pre-Otis. And I had four Yorkies running around my home! My leg of the trip was only from Oakland to San Jose, but it was fun. |
Junebug: awww, how sweet! Nothing in Washington at this time, though! Heheh, so it goes from "Otis needs to be an only child" to "WE GOTTA ADOPT!" in a matter of seconds after visting the site? :p |
