Cleaning up after potty Olivia isn't licking herself after she goes pee. She's still fairly young (5 1/2 months) but shouldn't she know by now?! It's sad to say that I've gotten used to having a pee pee arm, leg, etc., but as she's growing, she amount that gets on me is increasing! I would like to take care this before she one day sticks her little butt in my face and hasn't cleaned herself! Can I do anything to get her to clean herself or will it come with age? Most of the time she does a quick pee while playing. I'm so proud that she's taking the time to find a pee pad to use, but I'd like her to take an extra second to give herself a once-over. What can I do? |
I don't think they are supposed to clean themselves... atleast Esme doesn't and I am kinda happy about it considering I let her kiss my face! ;) Esme does know that after she does her business she has to wait for me in the bathroom to wipe her bottom. She does this own her own, and if I don't come to her, she comes looking for me until I follow her. |
hmmm....i don't know about this but I know that when I got Hallie (although she was 2) she didn't either. Then she just started one day almost like she taught herself and decided it was a good thing to do. I bet someone will have an answer for you! |
None of our little babies ever did that. |
Mine don't "clean" themselves either. |
I'd really like to know too! Are they suppose to lick themselves after pee (gross) or are they not suppose to? Roxy and TJ both started to about a month ago. TJ actually likes to lick Roxy (she lets him...) No one notifies me when butts needs to be washed, they could go for days if I didn't check every hour or so, maybe after some time of constantly washing butts they will start to notify me (that would be nice!) |

Maximus is 6 months and I knwo when he poops so I go to clean him but he feels he does a much better job and even after I am done he is trying to clean his tail...also sometimes after he pees I catch him licking |
Biddy cleans herself after she peepees. She's a very dainty girl & would not want to be unfresh! Tucker on the other hand - prefers to smell bad. He thinks it makes him seem tough. |
Is it not common for smaller dogs to clean themselves? We've had larger dogs my whole life and they've always cleaned up. I've tried to wipe before but Olivia definitely doesn't want me in that region! I would start cleaning up after her if I knew that she definitely wasn't going to start doing it on her own. I just don't want her to get lazy and think why should she do it when mom will do it for her! I always thought this was just instinct for dogs. |

Interesting! Simon doesn't and Hallie just started. I guess I never knew if they were supposed to or not. Maybe it really is just a preference???? I'm learning a lot today ;) |
Yorkie Cleaning after pottying is not a Yorkie trait...Yorkies perfer the owner to wipe their butts..and of course we do it. |
