I am getting sooooooo frustrated!!!! So I am attempting to get into showing and breeding yorkies in the future. I have been "attempting" for more than 2 years now. I am VERY VERY picky about what I am looking to produce and the dogs I will use to start. So far the dogs that I have gotten haven't been up to par with my standards or I was lied to by a breeder or scammed. Sometimes I do feel like giving up but I love yorkies and would really enjoy being able to show or have my name in someones pedigree next to Ch. and have the joy of knowing that "I" produced a wonderful representation of the breed. That's why I haven't given up then the people who should be supporting me, "family" are more so bringing me down than being supportive. They go on to say stuff like " Your'e still trying to breed them D**n dogs:eek:" , "You need to just give it up", "You get on my nerves with those dogs" and I'm just like in shock and try to brush it off but they just keep coming back with more remarks:mad::mad::mad: So I just need to come to YT to vent and get this off my chest. Sometimes I just want to ZAP OUT!!:rolleyes: |
It would be prudent to find an experienced show/breeder for a mentor to help you make dog selections and to guide you towards a showing and breeding carreer. |

Parents get frustrated when they can't help their kids, and instead of helping, they often seem to make matters worse. Just a little advice, breeding is not for the impatient, and being patient is one of the most difficult things to learn. |
showing and breeding There are several reputable breeders in your area. Get out to some of the shows and chat with a few of them. Find someone who is knowledgable about the breed and that is willing to advise you. If you have a girl you are breeding and you aren't getting what you'd like it may be time to move her along. You need to find a mentor that will teach you. Breeding yorkies isn't easy and producing show quality pups is even more difficult, just when you think you have moved forward something happens..so stick in there. My family thinks i am nuts, but I have some nice dogs and have had to move along a few as well. Now after 10 years of breeding, i am producing more consistant quality pups. Check out the ytca.org site and look up some of the breeders near you and contact them. Maybe you could meet up with them at a show or two and see their dogs. Offer to assist and give a hand, they can teach you so much. If they dont' need help, pack a lunch and bring it. Let them know you want to learn and that you are there to gain knowledge. You won't breed top winning yorkies overnight but once you have one out there that does well you will be so proud. :) Duncanmom |
Maybe you should join a local kennel club. You could start showing in juniour handling and learn the ropes even if its not a Yorkie. You would divelope a great eye for conformation that way by showing different breeds. Get to know some of the Yorkie breeders in your area and ask them to teach you to show. Maybe they will let you show their dogs and you could eventually find a great mentor. You have to crawl before you can walk and walk before you can run. Best of luck!! |
