New puppy - socialization problems Hi I just my puppy 2 days ago. She is 14 weeks old. She has become very attached to me already. I have been at the kitchen table the last two days working, and I got an X pen to section off some of the kitchen for her, and she runs in circles and cries to get out when I am on the other side of it. She is fine when I am not in the room, and she is fine when she can lie at my feet. It just seems to be when she can see me and cant be with me. She also trembles quite a lot, and when anyone comes into the house she runs behind my leg. She wont willingly go to anyone else and tries to jump down when they lift her up. My husbans is feeling very neglected! :p Seriously though, I can see this getting very out of hand. Or is it just cos its still so new to her? Any suggestions? I have a feeling the breeder may not have given her the individual attention she needed. Is 14 weeks to old to change her ways? |
I think she just might need a little more time adjusting to her surroundings. The longer she is around everyone I think she'll warm up to them and she'll be fine! |
This puppy has only been with you 2 days. Having a puppy takes lot of patience. Give her a few weeks to get adjusted. Even if she had lots of time with the breeder, she is now away from familiar surroundings and her litter mates/mom. She is probably very scared. She needs lot of love and stability and time to adjust and then she will be fine |
Baxter was very open to others when we first got him and now he will fight to get to me if someone else is holding him. Good luck. I hope she doesn't take to you the way he has to me. |
Some advice I'm no expert by any means, but on an episode of the dog whisperer,(my new adiction) a pup/dog that runs in cirdle and barks is insecure. Your pup is scared and is trying to adjust to the new surroundings. Just because she barks, doesn't mean she's in any danger or pain. She is going to challenge your patience, but as long as she is o.k. let her adjust on her own terms. Let her know it's o.k., but also tell her it's o.k to be alone. Is she your only dog? I have another dog in the house ,which made it easier for us. Good Luck, enjoy her, and enjoy YT. |
Something I've done with Leo since bringing him home... I take a shirt I am wearing and put in the pen with him, he will snuggle up to it and will nap or what have you. make sure you are spending a lot of time with your new puppy, not just near the puppy but with the puppy. they are no differnet then a newborn child, they need love, support and tons of patience. |
