Dressing your Yorkie At what age did you first start dressing your Yorkie? Im asking because I was checking out the prices for clothes and I think I should wait until Sadie seems to be at a pretty stable weight, etc before buying any for her. I dont want to put the $$ out for a few nice harness dresses only to have to buy new ones because those wont fit for long. Ya know? |
I have found if you don't start them young they do not adjust to dressing as well. Just get some cheap clothes just to adjust your puppy. |

My vet told me that my little guy should be done growing around 10 months. Just to give you an idea but all of them are of course different. |

I just 'dress' Katie in hoodies. She had various colours and they all cost £1 each (about $1.86) from a local bargain shop. Folks don't tend to put Yorkies in dresses and things in England. (More's the pity.) She has two harness's a pink and a red, again costing £1. I have a tiny one she had when young. I tried it on Suzi yesterday but it's far too big yet. I've also bought Suzi some of the hoodies for when she's a bit bigger. Hugs Shirl x x |

I agree with everyone else. You can get cheap, and cute, clothing at Target and Walmart, even Petsmart or Petco's sale racks. It's best to get them use to clothes young. |

4 Attachment(s) I think that starting them at a young age is a good idea. I've already started Gracie with bows and vests. However, I think a lot depends on their attitudes. Some just don't like clothes, some love 'em. I didn't get Annie B until she was nearly 5 yrs old. She was a rescue and had no socializing or idea of how to be a dog. It didn't take long tho to discover her Diva side. She loved to dress up & she'd pose all day long for pictures. I do encouragement cards for my family and friends each month and last year was all about Annie. I did a different theme each month and the only time I had trouble was when I put her in her motorcycle gear and we didn't go for a ride after the photo shoot. She pouted for the rest of the day after that one. :D Dang i miss that girl :cry8: Anyway all this to say, I think it's as important to have one that enjoys it as when you actually start to dress them. 1) April showers bring May flowers 2) My wild child 3) The Dog days of summer 4) Ready for back to school |
When I first brought Jeter home it was the cold out and he needed to have a sweater or li'l coat on, Sadly al his cute clothing I had gotten for him were just too big, So I started to put a sock sweater that I made myself. He was 9 weeks old at the time, so he is used to clothing now. Sometimes if he doesn't like the shirt, he will go "comatose" on me, He slowly lowers himself flat to the ground and wont budge LOL But for the most part he likes dressing up. |
as soon as we got martini i started dressing her lol...it was the winter so she needed it and now because of that when she sees clothes she gets excited and tries to put her head in the hole to get it on lol...so i agree with the earlier the better so they get use to it otherwise i think it would be a challange |
I tried putting a lil' topknot in Sadie's hair but her hair is too short or something to hold it. The band I used was far too tiny for me to hardly get around her lil' hair twice! So I gave up. Is there something else I can use to get her used to having her hair up? I am planning a trip to Washington this coming week and will stop by a petstore to see if I can find some sweaters, shirts, etc for Sadie. How do I know what size she will wear? She is 3 1/2 lbs right now at 12 weeks. Is that a Small or a Medium or even a Large? I wont have her with me to try things on. |

I bought cheap things off ebay when they were younger. I dont blame you for not wanting to spend alot of money now while yours is still a pup |
