Frustrating.......but I understand!!! I LOVE coming here several times a day to see the new posts, things for sale, wanted, etc., I can spend HOURS just looking at the posts and looking at the websites ya'll post. I really want to spend my money with fellow YT members as a way of showing my support. I guess I have this "gripe" out of frustration. I ADORE my Mufasa, A-D-O-R-E him and I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to get another one. I've had Mufasa for a month now and he has stolen the heart of my family in a way I never knew was possible. I mean you love your kids with all your heart and I swear I love Mufasa just as much as my kids. I guess I'm frustrated because the price of yorkies is just soooooooo high. I'm not saying they aren't worth every penny but for those of us who are "working stiffs" sometimes it's hard to come up with the hundreds of dollars to get a yorkie. I want to add a new yorkie to our family not only to share my love with another one but also to have a playmate for Mufasa but I just can't afford it. That is sooooooooooo frustrating to me!!!!! The only thing holding me back from giving my love to deserving yorkie is hundreds of dollars. That's just kinda sad to me. I kinda feel sorry for some of the puppies out there who aren't in loving homes when the only thing standing in the way is money. That hurts my heart!!! I think about the joy Mufasa has brought to me and my family and I KNOW how much joy other yorkies could bring to families but those families just can't afford it. I just wanted to get that rant out. I'm frustrated and sad at the same time! |
Have you thought about a rescue? Often times the cost is minimal and the reward is great! :) |
Have you ever thought of getting a rescue Yorkie? You might check with the rescue people in your area. These poor little ones need someone to love and care for them too. Just a thought. |
A rescue or older Yorkie may fit in your budget. One is just not enough ;) |
I understand how you feel about your Yorkie. I feel the same way about my Suzi. Rescue a Yorkie, or adopt one. Many need wonderful homes. |
I've posted on craigslist.com and look at the local animal shelters but yorkies are hard to find in my area. I'll always keep looking though! :D |
I can feel your pain! But I always keep in mind that breeding yorkies or small dogs for that matter is much more difficult than large dogs. My sisters golden ret had 9 puppies without a problem-they never even took any of them to the vet, mom included. But so many yorkies only have 1, 2 or 3 puppies and then if they wind up having a c-section... well the vet costs on a litter are just so much higher so I completely understand why they are so much more but I too wish it weren't so! Maybe you could find a breeder who just had puppies and you could do a layaway type situation where you make smaller payments over time? Just a thought..... |
Keep checking Craigslist and places like that. A lot of people are unfortunately in financial trouble due to the economy, and some are forced to rehome their pets. It's a sad situation for them, but you could help someone to at least KNOW that their baby is going to have a great new home. I am talking to a lady right now about her little boy Yorkie, and I may be getting him for $200. Just the cost of his vet check and neutering. I hope you're able to find another baby to bring home. Be patient and keep looking:thumbup: |
I'm going to try and be patient. Ha!!!! I'm just going to keep looking and hopefully I can help someone out and better than that give a loving home to a little baby who needs one. That's my goal!!!! |
It is good that you are being patient, and I can feell your pain. It took me over 6 months, and I drove over 1,000 miles looking a litters to find my second, Chizziewink, and I was willing to pay the going price for a pup. So I can imagine the frustration you feel. My best advice was to continue with the rescue option and at the same time continue adding to the "Yorkie Fund" so that you will have more funds available to purchase a pup if that is the route you plan to take. |
have you tried the for sale section...i find this little boy so cute...he is 11 months and weights 3.5-4 lbs. She has lower the price to $300 wanting to rehome him...there are options http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...ulf-coast.html |

We found Gabby on craigslist for $300. She has allergy issues, but her and Taz are already best buddies. The woman who sold her to me even offered to buy her back if we felt we could not handle her needs. I keep in touch with her and give her updates. You just have to be patient and the right one will find you at the right price! |
Ahhhh I totally feel your pain. I too am in the process of saving for a second (a little girl!). But I do understand why the price is so high. I got Jamie from an "Oops litter" that a lady in my area had when her AKC girl and her daughters AKC boy tied while she was puppysitting. Thankfully though my Jamie is the picture of health and perfection! But I know I got lucky the first time (before YT), so this time I really wanna do it right and find just the right puppy and a GREAT breeder. So just be patient and hang in there! Not exactly my strong suit... but we'll just have to wait together. Off Topic: BTW Miss Cindy I think we would all LOVE to see new pics of the puppies! |
Sammy was given to us by a wonderful person who just did not have time for her (she is very active! she is barking at Loki right now because he is napping and not playing with her!) and she needed to be spayed and then had a $3000 knee surgery. She was a very expensive "free" Yorkie. I'm not complaining because we love her and we think she's worth it, but I just thought I'd share because it's something to think about. :D I think it's OK when breeders charge so much for Yorkies if they are good breeders and take care of their dogs. It makes sense that they cost more than a lab due to the small litter size and high vet bills. The frustrating part for ME is when I see people who are not experienced or who breed their pets just because and they see dollar signs because they think $1000+ is the going price for a Yorkie. That's not right. I thought Loki was a deal at $800. I love Loki, but he's 12 lbs and has had some major medical issues. He wasn't a deal. Just one of his medications is $1500 per year... I'm just saying that spending $1000-$2000 for a high quality Yorkie with tests done and parents on site, etc. doesn't seem so outrageous knowing what I do now. It's also why I wouldn't recommend anyone buy a Yorkie on a shoestring budget. I know that accidents and problems can happen with any breed, but problems just seem to be so common with our little ones. I agree with being patient. I checked rescues and shelters daily until Sammy practically fell into our laps. We love her so much! |
