How much did it cost? I just got an estimate for Tigger today to get spayed and found out her baby teeth on the bottom never fell out:eek::eek:...so the doctor gave me the estimate for those two things to be done together.....200-500 dollars:eek::eek: does that seem like a lot plus Tigger is 7 months old now and she weighs 5.15 lbs.....I have heard so many people on her talking about getting spayed and there dogs passed during surgery. Any comments, suggestions |
Sandy will be spayed on the 18th and I was quoted $70.00. Of course this is Idaho. My Vet is very good. And very reasonable. TJ was neutered on the 7th and it cost me $45.00 and she pulled 2 baby teeth that were still hanging around. |

Ruby's spay, bloodwork, monitoring and retained teeth (10 of them) was $197, two years ago. Given your location and that everything has the tendency to cost more there, I would think the price you quoted is about average. I would expect it to be on the lower side of the quote you were given. Also, as long as Gizmo is healthy (pre-op bloodwork should rule out most concerns) I wouldn't worry too much about the procedure. It is successfully done on thousands of pets each day. :) |
I paid $429 for both my girls to be spayed and Brooke had to have 4 teeth pulled and I am up in the Bay Area where it cost alot. I would think that it would be more on the lower side of the estimate. Why can't they give you an exact price based on the spay and 5 teeth removed? |
Because I got tons of extras for Chelsey, two teeth pulled, pre blood work, special meds, cat gut stiches and glue, pain meds to take home, etc she cost 478.00 but the piece of mind was well worth it. |
It all depends on the area where you live. I use to live in the bay area, and everything is more. San Diego is and has always been an expensive place. I am in a tiny town now, and most things are cheaper . |

Wow ladies thanks for all your input...vet bills seem to get more and more outrageous and they know we will pay b/c our pets mean so much to us....isnt that some sort of robbery. :2omg:....I just got done paying a fortune for Peanut to have her teeth cleaned. Its a vicious cycle I never get caught up with the vet bills....I need to hurry up and finish college and get a good job...hehe...cause my furkids are breaking the bank...hehe |

Ellie's spay was less than $150. That price is with no blood work. That is about $100 more. Her vet office charges more than some but they do low cost spay/neuter. After spending 8 years in college, coming out with over $50,000 in loans to pay back, being an intern and possiby working 16 hour or longer shifts, doing surgery in the middle of the night, sometimes being on call, having to deal with people who are devastated about sick pets and having extreme pressure to do surgery and make sure it is perfect is worth every penny they ask for in my opinion.:) Oh, and there patients can't tell them what is wrong and some of them bite.:eek: The average vet salary is somewhere between $60,000-$70,000 a year (more if you own the practice) which is nothing for what they do. The sad part is, some owners just can't afford it. I can't blame it on the vets though. Dog insurance might be good for spay/neuter... |
