Diggers? Well Sadie loves the dirt and she loves to dig in it with me! I have a garden and I go out every morning before it gets hot and pull weeds. She is always right beside me (or under me because I squat) and when I pull up a weed, she will pull it out of my hand and drag it away. She shakes it around and then comes back for another one! Its hilarious but Im wondering if Im teaching her a bad thing by allowing her to do it? I figured if she sticks to digging and taking what I pull up only in the garden with me, its okay. Should I keep her inside and not allow her to do it in fear she might start digging up my whole backyard? LOL!! |
hahah i wont let martini in the dirt but she likes to think shes diggin in dirt when she tries to hid her treats in our bed lol...shes so funny |
Im always outside in the dirt somewhere around our property so its my way of life, really! Im always planting something or growing something and Im always dirty so it'd be hard to keep her out of it, but I can keep her inside if you guys think I might be teaching her a bad trick of digging! LOL!! Or do you think she'll just do it anyway because thats what terriers do?? |

That's so cute haha! I'd really just leave her alone and let her keep doing it. |
Thanks guys!!! Thats what Im going to do then! Let her enjoy the dirt with me!! She is sooo funny how she comes up and grabs it and takes off with it and shakes it! I laugh so hard watching her! I will discourage her from doing it when Im not working in the garden or in the dirt somewhere but if Im out there and she wants to play in the dirt with me, Im going to let her!! |
You've just got a lil gardening pal there. Aren't you lucky?:D |
My rescue Gabby is a true terrier. She digs her little life away. I've tried to stop her from doing this but she still does it. She can dig a huge hole in 10 secs, thank goodness I am always outside with them. All you see are little pot holes every where:eek: I tell everyone watch your step. Also my entire house is fenced in so she goes to the front and digs holes too. |
I don't let Bella near the dirt either. However she tries to "bury" her favorite toy bone in the couch, blanket, whatever that could be fabric that she could dig in. It's hilarious to watch her with both paws going at it and her thinking, just one more dig, just one more dig and then I can bury my bone. It's a hoot! |
Sophie likes to dig in the dirt, but I don't encourage her. I DO let her dig in the big sandbox hubby made for the grandkids! SHE LOVES IT! She lets her neighbor Bella the Shih Tzu join in the fun! |

Suzi is a little digger too... She gets into the grass and digs until she hits the dirt... AND she does this in her water dish. She loves it. Water is all over the place and she's all wet, but I know she is having fun, I have to keep filling up her water three to four times a day. She digs on magizines, cardboard, even on my bed. :D She is quite a character:D |
CoCoa B. loves to dig,and I just let him dig on, that's what they do also. |
sandboxes are great for the diggers.. i use the clean pool filter sand..:) |

1 Attachment(s) My husband came out to see what I was doing and he grabbed the camera because Sadie was being so funny grabbing all the weeds as I would pull them up. She was actually helping me pull some of them out of the ground and she bit my hand sometimes too thinking she had the weed. So here's one of the pictures of her and I in the garden and she's dragging a weed away to shake it to death. LOL. |
Cayenne Pepper If you are really concerned about the digging, try spreading cayenne pepper in the spots your dog digs. It is harmless to your plants and your baby. They smell the cayenne pepper and it makes them move on. I grew up with a true digger (he would have dug to China if we let him) but we had heard of using cayenne pepper. You can buy it in bulk at Sams or Costco. You may have to sprinkle it all over to encourage them not to dig but it truly works. Scooter is not a digger so I have never had to use it on him but having used it in the past, I promse it works. If it rains thoug, you will have to put more out if they continue to dig because it does dissolve. Good luck!! |

Thanks for the advice! I am not worried about her digging though as long as I can teach her when and where to dig! :) |
aww.. how cute, your lil helper! :p Avie doesn't dig outside or anything.. but i know we all love our little "bed diggers".. LOVE that! i think its the cutest.. |
I can't let Ziggy dig at the beach any more because he gets too excited and eats the sand! Last weekend he did this but I didn't know until he pooped a sandcastle the next day. I'm not kidding it was pure sand no poop. Boy that must have hurt! |
Well lemme just say my lil Diggy lives up to his name!!! |
