My Yorkie needs Ritalin ok, not really... but he's so hyper sometimes. He runs all over the place and I can't catch him. He play-barks at me. When I can catch him he play-bites the heck out of me. And then he goes on these rampages where he just runs laps around the interior of the house....Is this normal? He's 12 weeks old and is a sweetie when he gets all this crazy energy out of his system and the running around barking thing is really quite funny, but I just wonder if this is a puppy thing.... Thanks for any advice! |
I think it's pretty normal for puppies. Bentley is normally pretty laid back and cuddly except for a certain time in the evenings when he had so much energy and will bark at us to play with him and he will also run laps. There are times when I am standing in our yard and he will growl and then run in circles around me until he gets tired out. It's a funny sight. |
Hi Nadine529, my Bo does exactly the same thing and worries my 7 year schnauzer to death! Bo is short for "Turbo" (see the 'What's in a name?' thread in the 'My Yorkie' section) and it certainly fits!! Bo is also 12 weeks old and I think (hope?) :D it's just a puppy thing. They are little furballs of energy! As he passes by on one of his laps around the couch, you can hear his little breathing and his ears are flapping back in the wind!! :) |
yeah my toby does the same thing....... he is 4 and a half months old...... i swear he is the one that is wearing out the carpet more than us with those darn hot laps....... last night my fiance and i had a party at our apartment and toby was doing hotlaps and ran FACE FIRST into the sliding glass door!! i was sooooooooooooo worried he caused himself brain damage!! |
My Oscar does the same thing. He is 4 months old and is a wild man. Sometimes we call him the yorkie from...well you know...rymes with "well"...He runs and runs and runs and runs...non stop. We have laminate floors and I am surprised at the tractions he gets when he runs that way...And the biting thing, we go thru that as well as the "catch me if you can"...I heard they mellow out at about 17 months...counting the days! LOL |
Sometimes Yorkie boys will get calmer when they get fixed, but not my Yoda! He still humps his stuffed bear/dog/cat and always wants to play. I guess we got used to it? We try to give him as much attention as we can and play with him probably at least an hour a day, more on the weekends. |
Hercules likes to run laps too. Usually around the coffee table, or the dining room table. I wish I had a camcorder sometimes, because it's just simply hilarious to me! I don't mind though, because it helps wear him out so he'll nap for me later!! :D |
I agree. When Bo crashes for a nap, he CRASHES! Guess it's all those laps. We have seriously thought about filming him running circles around Woody for that funniest pets show! :D |
My moms Yorkie gets really crazy right after a bath he runs around like crazy. Doing laps around the whole inside of the house, it is funny. |
Well at least I know he's normal! |
Charlie does the same thing sometimes and he is 2years old. He bits at my feet and play-barks at me. i sometimes have to spank him he will not clam down. I feel so bad when I have to spank him but bitting toes really hurts when he bits down of the big toe. |
I thought my baby was the only one...she is almost 6 months old and constantly is running and running around the house. Especially after my 4 year old nephew who loves Dolce. He will have her chase him all over the house....and up the stairs and back down the stairs and then a few times around the den and living room and kitchen, back up the stairs...well you all get the picture. Its hilarious to see those Yorkie babies run at warp speed isnt it?? I swear we are almost crying at how funny she looks....a black and tan ball of fur whizzing by, ears straight back and panting. Ok, I am laughing just picturing her right now!!! :D P.S. Are u sure they calm down???? Even a little bit maybe???? :o |
Yorkies are very high energy dogs, which is why people should do their homework before getting one. Although they are small and they do not need to be out doors all the time because a house has plenty of room for a yorkie to run in. They will stay very active until they are a few years old, then if you are lucky they will settle down a little bit, but even my 7 year old yorkies like to run and play a lot, but they do have longer periods of laying time now. |
I wasn't complaining at all....I think she's hysterical....but I'm scared for her that she doesnt know that she needs to take a rest. On the weekends she is out ALLLLL day and maybe in her playpen for 2 hours....but the rest she is running around and playing...I'm scared that her blood sugar will go too low. Although I give her snacks throughout the day. She has never even ONCE had a problem with that though...so I guess thats just maybe how she is. My house is very hyper and active so I think she has taken on the personality of the household. Crazy house of mine!!! :D |
Do you feed you Yorkie any type of sugar? I remember my first yorkie, who was only 3 or 4 pounds, I fed him a piece of apple, and he went WILD, like a little bratty hyper kid. |
