Tails or no tails....... THAT is my question. :D Hi there. As some of you may know. I am extremely new to the wonderful world of YORKIES. We were given a 6 or possibly 7 yr old Yorkie named Taylor. Then we found out she was pregnant. Well she had her puppies last Sunday. Sadly one was still born. Apparently in her last litter she had 3 pups and none of them made it past 48 hours. Back to my topic..... Taylor HAS her tail and I don't think we want to have little Ceasars tail bobbed. What are some opinions out there ??? I am not going to be showing or anything. God gave them a tail on purpose.... RIGHT ??? LOL THANK YOU in advance. :aimeeyork |
I agree, keep the tails! Since I didn't get mine to show either I wish my girls could have kept their tails... Oh and Congrats on the new little pup(s)! |
Thank you for your response. Since Taylor has her tail and she LOVES to use it so often, LOL I just couldn't imagine having baby Ceasars tail lobbed off. I think their tails are BEAUTIFUL and very expressive !!!! Keep in mind that is only my opinion. :D I am NOT trying to upset ANYONE here. :D :animal-pa |
Mine have no tails-but I really like the pics of the babies with tails too! I think if you are not showing them then just go by what you think is cutest for you :)! |
EXCELLENT advice !!! :D THANK YOU for taking the time to respond. :D I was curious to see what others thought about this topic. :aimeeyork |
And......I would think also that tails would be funny (in a good way) when you get home and they are sssoooo excited to see you. Then they wouldn't be just waggin' that funny little nub :D! lol!! |
My yorkie just had pups about a week ago, I had their tails cut and aside from feeling very guilty for the pain it must have caused them, I liked their tails before they were cut. One of the reasons I did it was because I've never seen a yorkie with a tail. I think you made a good choice to keep the tail:) |
THANK YOU Saracarp !!!! It just felt like the RIGHT decision for US. Taylor wags her tail at warp speed every time I come home and soon we will have two happy tail waggers to greet us when we come in the door. :D I appreciate everyone's opinion and all of the support. THANK YOU ALL !!!!!! :D :woof: OMGoodness, we need a smilie Yorkie wagging it's tail !!!! LOL |
My Tobey has his tail. when we bought him I honestly didn't even notice (was not very informed at the time). But I am so glad he has his tail. I think it is so cute!! |
He is in my avatar and you can kind of see his little tail on the couch:p |
There seems to be lots of different opinions, but most people who do believe in docking think it should be done no later than 3-4 days. Docking is done not just because it's standard, but because Yorkies have a very thin tail that can easily be broken, causing a great deal of pain. Taylor seems a little old to be giving birth. Do you have male dogs that could get her pregnant? You might want to get her spayed. Best of luck with Taylor and Ceasar, I love the names you've chosen. |
Good choice. Keep the tail!:D |

Mine both have tails, but tail docking isn't allowed in England. They look ever so cute with their tails too. Hugs Shirl x x |
KEEP THEM! KEEP THEM! KEEP THEM!!! LOL!:p I do get VERY passionate about this topic so please forgive me!:p Tail docking is thankfully banned here in the UK..My Pixie has a very very cute feathery tail that does NOT stop wagging! sooooo sweet! She is a tiny 3lbs and is VERY confident and struts her stuff everywhere she goes with her tail held high! She has wonderful balance too and dances very well on her back legs...I know alot of my American friends on here have said they have never even seen a yorkie with a full tail! and that they just can't get used to seeing a Yorkie with a tail as it looks strange to them which i find very sad:(..Hopefully it will one day be banned in the US too and once the Top show yorkies are being shown with complete tail it will become more acceptable to everyone..;):aimeeyork |
Awwwwwwwwwww, so many wonderful responses. :D THANK YOU ALL !!!!! Yes, Taylor was just given to us nearly 6 weeks ago. We found out soon there after that she was in fact pregnant. We were surprised INDEED !!! She is on the old side to be having puppies. Trust me I had plenty of worries over this whole experience. She had 2 puppies and SADLY one was still born. :( Broke my heart. Little Ceasar is doing GREAT at 5 days of age. He is super active and loves to eat. LOL Taylor WILL be getting spayed for all of the above mentioned reasons. We only want the BEST for our new DARLING. She is the SWEETEST, KINDEST, SMARTEST, ADORABLE little dog. We feel extremely BLESSED to have her and her new son. Again, THANK YOU TO ALL for your great advice and responses. :aimeeyork :D :aimeeyork |
Yes, I vote for a tail!! Jeanie's was done - as per usual in this side of the world. But I too would have loved to have seen her wag a TAIL instead of a stump. Their tails are like their smiles :) I am not the staunch show person though - and have no problem with my little girls floppy ears (oh the horror :) and her cottony coat.......... Beautiful - they are all ding dang beautiful, no matter what!! :) :) Have a great day all! |

Sorry to those of you used to this practice...but I find it absolutely disgusting. Over here it is against the law to dock tails....since the last 8 years...there is just no need for it, and all my four Yorkies have their tails...which wagg and look beautiful with hair flowing ! They never get injured and they have no reason to ever come off in that case. If something happens to a tail...like in a cat...you obviously have to think about what is better for the dog...but to un-necessarily remove a tail just sickens me....same goes for dew claws ! (dog's "thumbs!") So all you breeders who I have talked to and who have given me fab advice and who also dock tails....I still like you all ha ha...and in time you will see how nice the tails are...showing or not....once it becomes common-place to leave them poor tails alone !!! When I bought my first 8 years ago...the law was just coming in, and it's the first thing I asked.....did my baby have her tail ? I am glad to say she did and still does. Keep them tails a wagging:rolleyes::rolleyes:;):D |

EARS ????!!!! What do you over there do to ears....or do I not want to know ????!!!! |
She probably just means to tape the ears that don't go up naturally.....because it is not good for some.......they think the ears MUST be up..... :) I thought so too...but have since changed my mind...... |
Maybe the whole ear comment is in reference to another breed???????? I have been indecision about the tail docking thing...I know it is standard, BUT...looks very painful...I can understand the dew claws, BUT isn't the tail being docked kind of vain...it is only done for the "standard"!!! Right? |
Don't fool with nature, leave the tails alone:D |
Thank You |
My Kodak has his tail but Mari doesn't, and I like his tail. They are cute with or without it.:D |
Considering little Ceasar is on day 5 in this world (LOL) he will DEFINITELY be keeping his happy, expressive little tail. I LOVE to see Taylor wagging her tail like crazy whenever I come home. Tails or no tails YORKIES are such sweet companions. Thanks for all of your opinions. :D :D :D |
