Could you fine ladies and gents tell me if you think he has a cotton coat or a silk coat? I'm still kinda new to this... Thank you so much


Oh and NO his leash is not on him in the photo it was on him when I was brushing him to make sure he did not run off

Looks cotton to me..yorkierose will tell you by the color of your yorkies eyes.. I am sure it is her that can do that.. hope that helps..anne

Eyes that glow green in photos...are supposed to mean silk.

Goldish glows are cotton.

thank you laides I was curious he is starting to turn colors as well. My lil man is getting older... heheh thank you for opinions I was unsure when you could tell, not that i matters to me really, but was curious!

His head looks silky, but I have a cotton coat and his face/head is quite smooth....so you can't go by that.

The color will start breaking down his back but you may not see the full coat until he's close to a year old or later even.

He is very cute!!! He kinda favors my Buster! How old is he? What is his name? I am sorry I can't answer your question as you can see.............I only have them! LOL! I am a new Yorkie Mom, also!!!!

His name is Leonidas but I call him Leo for short.. he is now 13 weeks old...

I would say silky. Usually the cotton coats are more curly.

I can't tell for sure by the picture (kind of agree it still looks like puppy fur) but I can tell you that you can't go by wavy/straight. My daughter's baby, Spike has a cotton coat and it is stick straight. His coat is the straightest of our three.

Thank you, i was reading that silk was easier to care for which was the reason I was wondering about it.

Is a hard silk the same as a modified or soft? I'm always trying to figure Sugar out. I have one with a clear silk, and one with a clear cotton and Sugar is neither.:rolleyes:

I have known YorkieRose to be wrong, wrong and wrong again..LOL

Hard silk to me is thicker strand of silk hair...some silk is more fragile and other silk is strong and does not break easily..the coat is plentiful...these are my terms...if it is a coarser hair, it will break before achieving full length..

Well technically correct or not, your description is perfectly clear.;) That isn't Sugar but of course that isn't who this thread is about anyway.:p Sorry OP, I'll quit hijacking your thread now.:) Your baby is precious!

Hey...

newbie here... and new owner of my very 1st Yorkie named Toby...
he'll be 5 months soon...

I was wondering if anyone knew when the more adult hair starts to grown in?

I'm not even sure if he's going to have a shorter coat or longer.. I'm thinking shorter, but not sure :confused:
