2 rows of front teeth Well, I've been hearing about the adult teeth coming in and the possibility of baby teeth retention, and now I know what it looks like. I just noticed that Bernie has a new set of front teeth. What do I do now? I know that I should have the baby teeth extracted when he goes in for nuetering...but in the mean time what do I do? He's been ready for neutering for about 1 month (at 6 mo old) but I've been holding off until his teeth come in. I guess the new ones are the ones that aren't in line with the others. Should I wait until he get a lot more in and see if these fall out? |
My babies baby teeth never fell out, I always had to take them in to have them removed. Your vet should take care of it when he goes in for neutering, they will usually do it at the same time. |
I have just noticed the same problem with KiKi this week....she sees the vet on Saturday...she is almost 8 months and not yet 3 lbs..I have been putting off getting her spayed until she gets a little bigger.. Does anyone know if them having all these teeth are painful for them? |
I'm wondering that too. I want to wait until the vet can get them all, I just don't know how many too look for. |
The chances are that they will not fall out... Most of our babies here had their baby teeth removed while under for the spay/neuter.. My suggestion would be to go ahead and get it done together, that way your pup will not have to go under anethesia more times than nessecary.. Roxi was spayed at 6 month, and she was 2.6lbs and had 16 teeth pulled. In the meantime until your puppy is 6 months, I would just try to make sure that you keep his teeth clean, as food does tend to get stuck in between the rows.. |

And Roxi didn't seem to be in any pain while they were in, or after... But I would say the longer you wait the worse it could get! |
I know that a pup can be fixed around 6 months old. But, if having the teeth pulled out too, then is it better to wait ? What age should all of thisbe done? 16 teeth pulled is a lot... Is there more recovery time after all of that is done? It must hurt so much for the dog to have all of it done at the same time. :aimeeyork But, if not done at the same time, then she has to go back under again. :aimeeyork |

When I noticed Mia had not lost all of her baby teeth, I pushed back her spay appt. a month. In that months time, she lost many of her teeth and she only had to have 2 extracted. Mia had a double row at one point, but it wasn't long till the baby teeth pushed the adult teeth out..but that doesn't always happen for all of them. The extra teeth aren't painful, but the reason why they should be extracted is because it can cause major dental problems down the road. |

It looks like Bernie only has 2 of his adult teeth in right now. He's 7 months and the vet says as soon as he "hikes" his leg he'll be ready. But I want to wait until he gets more adult teeth in so they can get them all at one time. I don't know how to tell adult teeth from baby teeth, unless they are both in there. My other dog Baxter has larger teeth and he's only 5 months. His look like adult teeth. I don't really know what I'm looking at. |
I'd call the vet and ask them if you should wait or how they do it. Roxie had hers out when she was fixed at 6 months. It didn't bother her at all. She still ate like it never happened. It probably feels better when they eat since nothing is getting caught anymore. They just took the baby teeth out. She only had to have 4 out, top and bottom canines. |
Alot of Wrigley's baby teeth did not fall out on their own. She had to have 14 extracted when she got spayed! |
