Weight Guinness is my first yorkie. I am totally in love with this breed. Anyway, I bought him from a reputable breeder refered to me by the AKC. My question is he weighs 9.2 pounds and I am kind of surprised. He is extremely healthy and vet says he is fine. But.....how much do yorkies usually weigh? The breeder told me he will be on the larger side because mom is 7 lbs and dad is 9lbs. I am just surprised I guess. |
Yorkies weigh in the 3-7 lbs range. Some weigh less some weigh more. I am sure your yorkie is a doll. |
My Yorkie weighs 11lbs. It's not too unusual for a Yorkie to get over the 7lb "limit" if the parents are on the bigger side. |
Yorkies range in weight fromn the smallest dog ever at under 1 lb to up to 20 lbs, but the "breed standard set by the show people" is under 7 lbs, and typicallly 5-7 lbs., but your yorkie is still a yorkie if it is over 7 lbs. :D |
Oscar's 9 lbs. and still growing. When Yorkies first came into being their average weight was at least 15 lbs. Some argue that they even got to be in the 20+ lb. range. |
Stomper is 12 pounds of yorkie! Love it and wouldn't change a thing about it. Like the other members have said, some our small, some are large and some can even get to 20 pounds! More to love! :) |
Ramsey weighs 6 pounds and he is 5 months… I think he is still growing not sure though.. I hope he gets bigger right now he looks so skinny ( a healthy skinny).. |
Lucy is about 9lbs and is one of the smallest that I know in my area, all pure yorkie. He sounds perfect to me! :D |
My wife was a little disappointed when what she thought was going to be a 4 pound Yorkie turned into a 7.5 pounder. But we couldn't be happier now that he's 15 months. He's strong, he's healthy and he's happy. |
Trixie is about 6lbs. We will find out for sure on the 17th though. :) (her vet appt) |
Congrats With respects to those who have teapot yorkies and kettlepot yorkies i can't believe the AKC would refer you to this breeder as the weight of this pupy is over the standard imposed by the previous mentioned. Regardless of his weight I am sure you will love and enjoy him as if he were smaller. |
My baby is 8 months - 3 1/2 lbs. Thank God, she is very healthy and eats like a horse. |
Sammi is 13lbs and 20 months old :) More Yorkie to love I say!! |
my lucky boy i love yorkies . i think they are the cuties little dogs and i have a few friends that have one. well i recently bought one of my own. my lucky was born 04-11-05 and he was flowned to me from a breeder in alabama that a friend referred me to. when he first came he was so cute and chubby, he was 8 weeks and weighed exactly 3 pounds. the vet said he was in perfect health. now lucky is about 15 weeks and he's already 5.6 pounds. i have him on an auto feeder since i work all day. at 1st i would leave a full bowl of food out for him. but then he jumped from 3 pounds to 5 pounds in 6 weeks. every growth chart i see stops at 6 pounds. well he will certainly be bigger than that. ??? how big will my lucky be? and is he growing to fast? i know he's not a mix i have all his papers back 2 generations. the breeder says he's just going thru a growth spurt and he probably wont get much bigger, since his mother was 5 1/2 pounds and his dad was 3 1/2 pounds. she said she had puppies that grew fast the 1st couple of months that didnt grow much after that. does anyone have some advise for me and my lucky boy. thanks cocoa |
