9 days and counting! My little Bella is supposed to give birth to what the vet described as "multiples" on May 14th. We live out in the country and my vet is about 20 minutes away. I've had some wonderful advice from the owner of the little stud we used. I've read as much as I can find on the Internet about Yorkies birthing and watched several videos on YouTube. I have everything ready for the "birthing room." :) My little Bella's belly is getting so big and I just have a feeling she might deliver before then. My husband travels for a living and will be out all next week. He's going to try to be in town when she's supposed to deliver. As you can tell, this is a first for me - as I am rambling on and on. I just want everything to go smoothly and most of all, I want my little Bella to be alright. We're not selling the pups. We wanted to have this experience with Bella. We're going to give the pups to friends and family members - and most probably keep one ourselves. WHEW!!!! I'm getting more nervous about her delivery than when I was pregnant with my two daughters!!! :scratchhe Thanks for listening ;) |
Good luck to little Bella and you! Praying for a safe whelping and healthy babies! |
Thank you! I appreciate your thoughts! |
I hope all goes well for her. Do you mean she's due "July" 14th?? |
What an idiot!!! Yes, yes - that would be July 14th - told ya' I was getting nervous! |
You say your going to give them to friends and family members now, wait until you have delivered them and watched them grow for a couple weeks. We recently had 3 pups and intended to do the same thing but when saw how cute they were we decided to keep them all. Make sure you have heating pads (not electrical) to keep you pups warm. Try and find the rice filled ones you put in the microwave. Also vanilla ice-cream, it's good to give mamma a little between contractions/pups to keep her energy levels up.:animal36 |
vanilla ice cream? Quote:

Awww, you sound so excited. I know the feeling. I've had only one litter and can hardly stand the wait til we can have another. Good luck to you and Bella and do keep us posted. Will you be starting a whelping time thread in the breeders section when she goes into labor. There will be lots of knoweldgable breeders there to help if you need it. I'll be watching for the happy event! |
You all are wonderful! Thank you so much for sending the positive energy our way! All the tips I have been getting have been great, too! I have done some research on the Internet and found this site: Whelping Yorkshire Terrier Having Puppies It is extremely informative and a little scary as well. There's a lot of great information about all stages from puppies to whelping. Carie, I know what you mean about wanting to keep them. We live out in the country with 4 miniature horses (the newest of which was from our mare and we didn't even know she was pregnant! I came home from my law office one day and there he was!!!) We also have 4 big dogs that were dumped out here and needed to be rescued - and every cat we have (I think there's a dozen) was in need of a home - abused, dumped, etc., just like the dogs. Thank goodness we have a wonderful big barn that my husband has made into an animal dreamhouse :). Of course, he keeps saying we should keep one puppy and in the same breath says, "How are we going to give them away?" My thoughts exactly! But at least I know what kind of homes they'll be going to and since they're friends and family, I can see the pups any time!!! |
P.S. to "luckylady" Thanks for the info about the breeders' site. I'd better check that out too! |
Wow ... that are exciting news .... hope the Mommy and Babys do well and we get to see some cute Furbutts soon !!!! Congrats ..... and keep us Posted !!! |
Thanks, Maya's Mommy!!! You know I'll keep you posted!!!! I can't wait to be able to upload pictures of them on here :D |
Don't give Yorkies Ice-Cream, it's just for the mama while she is giving birth to keep her energy and blood sugar levels up (a small amount in a spoon). Otherwise I would suggest never giving your Yorkie or any dog ice cream. Also don't use gloves, combined with the fluids from the birth your pups could slip out of your hands easily with gloves on. Use your bare hands but keep some hand-sanitizer ready (I suggest the foaming kind). |
Another thank you!! I've saved your information about the ice cream and gloves. Thanks so much! One of those breeder sites advised that you should have surgical gloves on in the event you need to help one of the pups out - so, of course, I ran out and bought those too - along with everything else that has been suggested in these breeding articles. I swear, a human being could give birth with no problems with all the stuff I have ready and waiting!!! ;) 5 days to go!!!! Poor little Bella - it looks like she swallowed a cantalope! I took a picure of her yesterday, so I'd better add it to her album on here. |
