Oh my! Looks like your babies will not be going outsite to celebrate today! Better safe than sorry anyways! Im glad that they are okay ;) |
Thank God you were there to get them in safe. I would love to see an Eagle in flight, but not when by babies are out. Do you see Eagles often Breny? We have to keep close watch for red-tail hawks here. |
:eek::eek: OMG!!!... I am so happy they were ok... I have to worry about owls here... |
Brenda, what a WONDERFUL day to see an eagle! I bet it was beautiful! Yesterday all we saw was a roadrunner in my back yard. lol |
if you want to see the eagle again, just let the little yorkies out.... just kidding.. keep those babies inside:animal-pa |
That would be scary!!:eek::eek: Neat to see, but not with the dogs. |

your mean... lol...:D |
OH how scary for you and those fur butts!...but what an honour to see an Eagle on the 4th of July...so very patriotic!!! |
Tell your husband that he should have got a picture for all of us...after helping you take the babies in of course! |
I totally understand how you felt! We have a huge hawk that hangs around and it swooped close to our yard one time and I about had a heart attack! |
I would LOVE to see one like that...but i would be concerned for my babies too..did it look like it was interested in them at all? or just passing by? I saw a Red Kite fly over my house this afternoon..they are pretty big..but i'm not sure if they would take a yorkie..Pixie is a lil teeny 3lbs though.. |
An eagle on the 4th of July, that is kind of cool. I think we should always be cautious with these little ones, I never let Joey outside alone. Maybe it was Uncle Sam's way of saying Happy 4th of July! |
That eagle was probably very beautiful..... BUt, if it was flying that low then yes, it was probably looking for something to eat:eek: AND now you will need to be very, very careful because he will come back looking for food. I am glad you were right there! :aimeeyork |
Wow, I'm glad you were ablel to see it before anything happened.. so sorry your babies do not get to enjoy being outside today. Hope they have a safe fourth. |
OMG--I was just thinking about this sort of thing the other day!! Bugsy and Miss Daisy play outside in our yard daily, but he is ubber-pom at 16 lbs, she is my l-o-n-g super model girl at 11 lbs, so they are okay... Miss Rosie (who won't at 11 weeks and 2 pounds be seeing the yard anytime soon) however, makes me a little worried, cuz she will be a tiny 5 pound-ish one as an adult... What size is "safe" for them? Here is the little morsel, BTW....click on the link below, cuz I can't for the life of me figure out how to make it simply show up!!! Eagles are fishers, meaning they prefer fish and/or carrion. I am not saying they would not attack a living running creature (dog, cat, squirrel, rabbit) if they are hungry enough. I would say that a small carnivore would be their last pick. Owls and hawks would worry me more than an eagle. Just enjoy the phenomenal beauty of seeing an eagle in flight. I use to live in FT. Madison, IA- Lots of Eagles around in the winter on the Mississippi River! About 15 miles away an eagle took a young girls cat, as they were in the yard, swooped it up inches away from the girl and away her cat went as she was watching- it was in the news and papers all over to watch your pets! Eagles are beautiful- but are huge- wing spans of 6 feet! I could lay down and take a nap in one of their nest- they are big enough to take a 8 lb dog very easy! glad your Babies are fine- know it scared you- and if it came that close- you need to watch your babies- very close! I would be getting a pen with a cover- that eagle came to close for a reason- in my opinion! And they can swoop down in a fraction of a sec- even if you are right there! I'd be scared to take my out- but I have seen many- and know what fast hunters they are!And they do look for rabbits, ect-that's what scares me. Have you had flooding in you area?? Good Luck- and it is a small wonder to have one so close on the 4th of July! Just want you babies to be safe- and you heart not to be broken! Be careful!! |

That would be scary. I am such a worry wort. When we first got Tila, I was talking to my family about her care and everything and starting talking about stories of people who have had their babies taken by birds. My brother thought it was absoultely halarious. I don't know what he pictures in his mind when he pictures it, but he usually gets a good slap in the arm when ever he laughs about it around me. We have bald eagles and ospreys and all kinds of big birds in our area, which is why I always keep in eye out when Tila is out. I freaked out when there was a seagull flying over head when she was in the yard. Now I don't think a seagull would take off with a baby yorke, do you? Like I said I worry too much, I'm sure when she gets a little bigger it'll be easier. |
Close one! But I have to admit that seeing a eagle on 4 of July is really cool! |
My husband is a falconer. So I know first hand how fast a hawk can swoop down and grab prey. Definately being safe rather then sorry is best. You have to worry about owls too. Luckily Roxie doesn't like to go far when it's dark out. Especially where we live, wooded area and river in my backyard. We've seen owls swoop down and grab rabbits at night. Not a pretty sound or sight! |
We have had hawks in our yard when Sam has been out...it's scary. |
And to think I was panicking over chipmucks running on our patio today! I spazed! Glad they are all ok! |
Good grief !! You are right to be afraid .I just posted the same warning on another post . Small dogs, any pets and Companion Birds are very vulnerable to birds of prey~ Raptors . Even in outside cages as they can lose a limb very easily . I have 4 companion Parrots that when they are outside I'm just a few feet away~Always !! |
