Need help choosing my new Yorkie.... I have several scenarios: As you may recall, for my Bday last week DH is letting me pick a male yorkie for my Mia. Mia is 5.5 - 6.25 lbs depending on the day. Her sire was 2.5, dam 4.5. She is more of the silver blue/tan. Good conformation. Genetically healthy - my vet was raised w/ Yorkies, his parents bred and showed while he was growing up and he has 4 currently. Anyway, I do believe I want to breed - not to show, just to produce genetically sound, correctly conformed, well adjusted/behaved pups. I bred & showed Persian cats for years and I do not want to do similar again. Where I live in NM, the vast majority of our 'purebred' dogs come across the border - many with forged vet papers, forged registration papers, and they are NOT cheap. A good friend paid $700 for a "tiny" Chi that was not supposed to reach over 3 - 4 lbs. She was 1.3 at "9 weeks". After she got pup home, she determined that this can't be the age. On the first vet visit it was determined pup was really 4 - 5 weeks - reg papers & vet papers were forged. Pup is now almost 5 mo old and is 7 lbs. So, given my desires, I'm looking at a couple of males - (I've also corresponded with a couple of YTers). I figure I'll know MY pup when I see it. #1. is 20 oz @ 11 weeks #2 is 21 oz @ 12 weeks One of these may be my pup, or they may not. I'm not in a big hurry. I would think that they would both end up 3 - 3.5 lbs. I believe, as does Mia's breeder, that that would be a good weight range to be looking for in terms of health issues and a good size to breed w/ Mia. Mia definitely likes to rule the house, so I think a younger pup would be easier to adjust to than say a 5 - 7 mo old. Opinions? Suggestions? First and foremost, this male will be a PET. Spoiled rotten like Mia. And whether we actually ever breed them will not affect their 'status' in my life. Pets are forever friends. My other option is in another post as I don't want it to get too long/confusing and the other already is. TIA Julie |
I don't have any advice for you as I have NO experience what so ever. But I'm sure there's some breeders on here that could be very helpful. Good luck with your spoilin'! :p |
Any thoughts? |
