To Yorkies? What made you love them so much? Not a specific Yorkie but as a breed? Why did you want your first one? Or if you only have one, why did you pick a Yorkie over the other breeds?

For me I think it was the hair and the color of the first one I ever saw. I don't know what sex it was but I saw it in a magazine. LOL, you know I don't even remember what the ad was for, just the Yorkie. I was a teen then, about 35 years ago. Finally got one last year, now I have 5. I couldn't be happier. Sylvia

My brother had wanted a yorkie FOREVER! i didn't really like them. we went to a pet store (before we knew all the things we know now) and they told us he was from a breeder. he was just soooooo cute!! we already knew we wanted a small breed, because my choc. lab is afraid of big breeds. so my dad asked to take him out. the guy took him out and handed him to my dad. he just did this thing where he put his head on your chest and licked your chin. he did that with my dad and he just fell in love with him. then my mom turned around and said no not that one, it looks like a rat. then she took it and held him and he did the same cuddling thing to her. then we all fell in love. he's what got us turned on to yorkies. we did a lot of research and learned soooo much from being on here when we got bandit. then after he died, we knew we needed another one. we found a breeder in old bridge. we went to visit and narrowed it down to 2 yorkies. the first one was a bigger one. i loved him he was soo playful!! my mom fell in love with the one who now is tucker. i thought he was too mellow now that he's home, i've been proven wrong. the breeder ended up keeping the one i wanted and named him duewy. he's now smaller than tucker. so sorry to ramble on and on but thats how we came to love the breed.

I take no credit for choosing a Yorkie. My wife researched small breeds and settled on a Yorkie because they're cute. I just fell in love with him. I originally thought it was because he was tiny and I had an instinct to protect. But we had a 3-pound chihuahua that I didn't get along with at all. I think it's the Yorkie spirit. They're big dogs in a little dog's skin. Eddie wants to play all the time. And when he looks at me with those big, dark eyes, I just can't say no.

My sister has had a Yorkie for 1.5 years. We spent a lot of time together during my father's illness and passing and I noticed (and she said) how much comfort her puppy gave her during those months. Not to mention how beautiful and playful her puppy is! So we took the plunge in March, and again last Sunday!

I already told everyone about my first exposure to a yorkie, after my daughter died my friend a vet asked me to help care for a yorkie who needed extra help,well I fell for it hook line and sinker,found out after the fact that she was there to help me,not as the original plan was in the beggening,after her,many years later when she went to the rainbow bridge I just had to have another one, because by this time there was no living without a yorkie, now I have 2 and wll always have at the least 2,we admit we are suckers for the breed

their cute appearance is what attracted me to the breed. Everything from the color & texture of their hair to the size.

For me their cutie pie faces were a huge factor, of course.

But also the fact that they were small enough to be portable almost anywhere was a huge plus because I love to have a pet as a constant companion, and that means pretty much going with me everywhere.

Their frisky and fiesty demeanor too. I love to be active going for long walks, bike rides, playing catch on the beach and they are able to keep up with me because they love the exercise. But they also love to be loved, and cuddled when we have down time and are relaxing. So many good points about them!

Actually a yorkie wasn't our first choice. We wanted either a Boxer, German Shepherd or Old English Mastiff. BUT after considering all the pros and cons we decided on a small dog. I figured if I couldn't have the biggest dog I'd have the smallest! :D Plus I love that we don't have to walk him.

My uncle has two yorkies and I always thought they were so adorable so after a lot of research that was the dog for us. I do think they are the most beautiful breed and I love terriers.

I'll never have a different breed now. I'm totally hooked!

Six years ago when I got my first minature dachshund, I considered a yorkie, but after having a poodle, I did not want any kind of dog that had to be groomed on a regular basis. Then I got another dachshund, why I don't know, except that I love puppies. I considered a yorkie again but passed. Then one day I just got a yen for a yorkie, they are so cute and small (mine weighs 12 pounds, but that is another story). I was obsessed until I got one and now I would not consider any other breed. They are so loving, lively, sweet and do require grooming, but he is worth it all and he gets along great with my doxies.

When I was about 5 years old I saw a puppy in a tea cup, and my heart just soared. That was what I wanted, but in my minds eye, I saw one with long hair and bows. I did not know they truly existed till fate put me in the hand of a breeder, for which my sole purpose was to try to get back a refund for an employee that was unable to pick up a dog she had put money down on. We got to talking and he brought out my first dream girl “Tiki” who still brings tears to my eyes.

I have had 3 beautiful girls, and now my first boy. To me they are like children and my life would be barren and empty without them. That’s one thing I love about this site, everyone here pretty much agrees they are our kids. I will forever morn my little angels that I can no longer love, protect, and cuddle with, and I know I will always gather up the strength to bring up another one because I can’t imagine living without them in my life!

just wanted to add, we didn't want a yorkie. we were on our way to the puppy barn to get a cockapoo. it had been bitten by its mom so its lip was messed up. the guy said to call him on the way there, and my dad couldn't get ahold of him. after he finally got him , 45 minutes later the guy said some people came in and they were selling him now. needless to say i was upset. now i'm glad!

I had always wanted a yorkie, and my husband always wanted a big dog. Every year we would go to the state fair and where they have the dogs, and I would be in awe over the yorkies... When we got a book on dogs and read up on them, we decided that a big dog was best for us at the time. Then my kids got older, and I was going through a rough medical time, I decided to get my dog I always wanted. So I did, and she has been a blessing.

For me it was that they are the cutest puppy. I like the way they look as adults also. They are a well rounded dog. I don't regret my decision. They are part of the family.

I think I must've owned one in a former life, cuz one day I decided I just NEEDED a Yorkie, about 5 years ago I just had to have one and it has taken this long to get hubby to agree to it.

This is odd for me cuz I am such a Humane Soceity/Rescue advocate, not that I have anything against purebreds I just am one to go for the underdog so to speak..

Not so with my Yorkie, she had to be a Yorkie only, and 4-5 pounds . I have no clue why. She has been great for me and I imagine she'll be an important part of my life for a long time.

A lady who saw Pita all dressed up today (with her tiara on) told me I was so brave and to stick to my guns. ???

Apparently, she gets a hard time from her family for putting clothes on her poodle so she backs down.

I don't give a rats butt what anyone says, Pita doesn't mind, and I love it so who cares??

Most people don't realize how temperature sensitive the lil dogs are and sometimes they truly do need clothes on!

My hubby is already giving me a hard time because I ordered her a stroller!

The thing that drew me to yorkies is when I was 12 I went to London with my grandparents to visit my great gramma. She had a bunch of yorkies. She used to get up in the morning and do all thier hair and then they would all follow her around like she was royalty or something. I loved how they were soooo tiny and so cute and lovable. Her dogs used to have little sweaters that they wore. Each of them had thier own color. Like Mitsy for instance was pink. All her sweaters were pink and all her hair things were pink. That is how my Great Gram told the difference between them. So ever since then I have wanted a yorkie. Now that I am almost 30 I finally got one and hopefully soon will be getting another. :)

I love it!! :) You're carrying on with tradition.

I know it is a horrible thing to say but the only thing that I really remember of my great gram was her love for yorkies. I remember that she was a very very classy lady but other than her silver hair I couldn't tell ya a darn thing other than her yorkies were her children.

I was not exposed to yorkies unitl I was 19 when I met my husband who is 8 years older than I am. He was in the process of a divorce with 2 small boys and they had a yorkie. When we all moved to GA 2 years later the boys and Candy came to live with us. She adopted me from the start. She became mine. I had to make my youngest stepson stop sleeping with her because he would hold her sold tight right around her neck because he was afraid she would get up in the night, I was afraid he was going to strangle her. She really warmed up to me after that. But, it was love at first sight. I had to have her put to sleep about 4 -5 years after that. It was the hardest thing that I ever had to do. About a year later we got Bailey from a really good friend of ours. We got him for my stepson but, when he went to live with his mother I told him he could not take him, that I was not paying to fly a dog back and forth I would pay to fly him back and forth but I didn't think it was fair to Bailey to totally turn his life upside down.

The Thanksgiving after I found out that I was pregnant with my son, we were at my granfathers for the holidays. He lives on 10 acres in rural VA. He was used to it up there and he would go out do his business and then come back in and had been doing this for a couple of years. But he got in the road and got killed, he followed my aunts poodles on which was in heat to the road and he was the only one that didn't make it back. But, the good news my aunts dog had puppies so we had some yorkie poos and my mom got the female and still has her to this day. She is more Yorkie than Poodle. She is very attached to me. It's almost like she knows that because we had her daddy and we are a big part of why she is her.

Anway 8 years later we got Mollie from another good friend of ours and she just had babies the owner of the stud is the same person we got Bailey from. We are planning on matting them again.

My Aunt has a two year old yorkie that I adore. He is the sweetest, calmest little guy I have ever met. I also LOVE that they have hair instead of fur. Plus they are the cutest dogs I have ever seen in my life. My Stomper is not always sweet and is far from being calm like the first yorkie I met, but I still love him SOOOO much and wouldn't change him for the world. :)
