Looking for a new friend Hi My name is Kellie. One of my best friends was an Army Doctor. He has recently finished his time in the Army and has moved back home to get married and start his own practice. Yippee for him, However; sad for me. I not only miss my friend, I miss my "Buddy" which was his Yorkie that stayed with me as much as he did at home. Anyway I am looking for a yorkie to adopt or purchase for a small fee. I realize that these loving creatures make fortunes for people, but I dont have a fortune to spend. You see I have never bought a dog or cat. I normally rescue from shelters. My mixed breed 5 yr old Duke is a rescue and he misses Buddy too. I have looked and searched into rescues and shelters as well and they too want hundreds for Yorkies. Anyone out there with any suggestions. Thank you so much for your time. Sincerely, Kellie |
Kellie, welcome to YT. I wish there was good news, but if you can't afford to pay the hundred or so dollars a rescue wants how will you afford the care of a yorkie? There are vet visits and so many needs for even a healthy pup, not to mention all the horrid health issues one may have to deal with. I would recommend doing what so many of us have done that have longed for a pet - 1st save, save, save and research your purchase and breeder and then be prepared for a little furbaby of your own |

Not hundred or so, Hundreds. I am very aware of vet bills as I have just spent over $3000.00 in vet bills for my mixed breed Duke. He actually is quite famous! He has been in paper, on news, internet and fliers everywhere. He was stolen by a cop. He went missing 2 days before my husband deployed and was gone for 8 months. On the day my husband returned home for his 2 week R&R, we got a call that Duke had been found. He returned home to us with injuries that required several surgeries. He is doing wonderfully now and is healing well. Hopefully we will not have to amputate. I am just hoping to find someone that has a yorkie that needs a wonderful, caring, loving, christian home. Again We as well as Duke just really miss our friend. Hoping to add an addition to our family. Thank you for your reply. I think that maybe my first post was confusing. I have fostered and rescued, searched and found many loving homes for many furry friends. I have paid for vet bills without reimbursement or donations. I have transported them as well. I have never owned a Yorkie or fostered one if you will. I was Buddy's aunt if you will. Well more like his Mom. Never new a thing about the breed before, as bigger dogs always stole my heart. However with taking care of Buddy, I have learned much about Yorkie's, their behavior and their medical needs. Again...Looking for friend...Missing my Buddy!! |
Hi! You will probably have to pay at least $500 for a puppy. There are a few people on here that have gotten their dogs cheaper or free, but many times health may have been an issue. My sister-in-law is moving to the Lake Charles area. How far are you from there? |
Do you think now would be a good time to get a new puppy? You must have your hands full with Duke (hope he gets better soon). A new pup could be a lot to handle for you, and for Duke, right now. Not saying it couldn't be done. I would mostly be concerned with how it would be for Duke to have a new pup running around at this time. Is he well enough to deal with a new pup? You sound like you would be a wonderful Yorkie Mom but I can't tell by your posts just how serious Duke's condition is, though you did say that amputation was a possibility. Have you thought about possibly getting an adult Yorkie? That may be a good fit for you at this time. :aimeeyork :animal-pa :animal-pa :animal-pa :animal-pa :) |
Hello Kelley, I'm so sorry to hear about your friend and his Yorkie, how sad! I would try Petfinder.com: Adopt a pet and help an animal shelter rescue a puppy or kitten. or a yorkie rescue. Good luck! |

Welcome to YT! You may want to try the rescue section here. Also, many times breeders will rehome retired breeding stock for less than the 'going rate' of a puppy. Good luck. |
I live one hour away from Lake Charles. Duke is doing well and is chasing squirrels again. He is so happy to be back home with his family. I am shocked at how many people say did Duke remember you. Well....Hello of course he remembered his family. Also Duke is very good with puppies. He love puppies and kittens. Unfortunately, he is not so much in love with older dogs though. Thanks for all of your replies and thoughts. Sincerely, Kellie |
