Just got my 1st yorkie!! :) Yesterday I got my 1st ever yorkie "Ivy" she came from a animal resecure and they got her from a puppy mill. I'ts hard to believe after all she has been though that she is as happy as she is. She is not housebroken so is it hard to break a yorkie that is 4 years old? Also are yorkie coats thin? I see that she had a hair cut but I don't know if it's from a bad diet or the grooming.I'm new to Yorkie Talk so as of yet I don't know how to put pictures on, when I do I'll put one on |
Welcome to YT:welcome4: Post as many pics as you can! We all love pics! Let us know if you have any questions/concerns, we are all here to help:) |
:welcome4: to YT! Congrats on your new pup...Cant wait to see pics :D Every Yorkie is different when it comes to being house broken....But, seems that a majority of them can be a little stubburn when in comes to that...no matter what age :) |
Welcome, I can't wait to see pics. By the way I love the name, my 13 year old daughter is named Ivy |
Welcome to you and Ivy!! So happy you rescued that baby. I was on a couple of Yorkie Rescues for a few years and fostered quite a few adults that I had to house train. Some were quick learners, some were slower and one never did catch on poor old guy. He was also never adopted and died in foster care. |
Congrats on your new addition and it being a rescue too! |

Hi and welcome! With potty training you can get a wee pad. any time she goes soak it on the pad, Get a treat, bring her to the pad and tell her how good she is and give the treat. She will discover wee ON the pad means treat. You can then move the pad closer and closer to the door. My baby has a single layer straight coat. With no under coat it can seem a little thin. Congrats on your new angel!! |
Hi Cheryl and Ivy, Welcome to YT!!!! Regarding her hair....diet is a big factor in their skin, hair, eyes, bones and on and on and on....lol But take your time getting to know what she likes and doesn't like, always ask if you don't know or not sure. You can ask here, google it or even call your vet and ask over the phone. I had to put my Buffy on a low fat diet to loose 2 pounds and after a year her hair looked dry, no shine..... a friend that fosters a lot recommended Lipiderm you can get it at Petco its for skin and coat it has vitamins, fatty acids and Omega. I took it to my vert for his approval and he said it was ok to give it to all my Yorkies. It took 2 months for me to see a difference but it did work, even on my Duncan he was a pup and his coat was not changing much already over 1 yr old. After 2 months I notice a change on his coat too a lil thicker didn't matt as much and his silver turned platen blond. We wish you and your new lil one the very very best!!!! :wavey: |
