Hello Everyone!!!!! Ok so I have been MIA, but I am back!!!! I originally lived in New York, moved to Florida now 2 years later I am moving back to NY. Due to unforseen circumstances I have to move back. I bring this up to say that I was having a really hard time finding a place that accepted dogs, which I never thought I find. Leaving Cody behind is not an option. He must come with us for a couple of reasons. First off, he is not just a dog to us he is the baby of the house, second, there is no way I am going to tell my son that not only am I relocating him but Cody is not coming with us!! I finally found an adorable apt and they do accept pets. Cody is actually in NY now as we speak. I went there and had brought him with me, my parents loved him and asked that I leave him since I am moving in about 2 weeks. So the few days that I was there I got him used to going outside to potty. Which he did here in Florida but in Florida he was let out into a yard. In NY there are cars zooming by and boy was Cody overwhelmed. And getting into an elevator? forget it!! I would literally have to pull him, you would hear his nails on the waxed floors!! It was hilarious!!! But now he is a New Yorker, chasing pigeons, no longer afraid of the elevators or the cars. I am concerned on how he will deal with the winter. I tell my parents how I have to buy him a coat, a raincoat, possibly some boots to keep his paws warm and they laugh at me!!!! I think we'll be okay. If anyone from NY can get back at me and let me know how their babies deal with the winters, I would appreciate it!!!!! |

Minnesota I live in Minnesota and I have 3 different pairs of boots and 3 coats depending on how bad it is I never leave her out alone We always go out with her I know that if there is snow on the ground You need to scoop the snow or they will not go outside hope this helps a bit |
I dont live in Ny, but I live in the mountains close to Lake Tahoe. I was already told by my breeder to buy my Yorkie a sweater/coat for the wintertime so I plan on purchasing one soon for the upcoming cold weather! We get quite a bit of snow and cold here so she'll hate it, Im sure! LOL!! I dont know about the lil' paw covers because I think that would be more of a pain in the butt to me to have to keep putting them on and taking them off everytime she had to go potty. I will probably just dig her out a small place to go potty in close to our backdoor so she wont have to worry too much about her feetsies getting wet or cold. :) |
Glad to hear your furbaby is making the transition. I laughed at your description of him getting into the elevator. I could just picture the argument with him saying Oh NO I"m NOT Going In that Little Room!!!. Best of luck with the rest of your move. Oh, and yes I think he'll need a coat. |
It gets just as cold here in the winter and mine still wants to go out just as much. She just doesn't stretch out in the yard like she does in the summer!:D You'll need sweaters and coats. There are times I will have to put a sweater and a coat on mine. She refuses to wear boots though. I just have to be careful not to keep her out too long, because her ears and feet might get too cold. She actually prefers the temps in the 60's to the 80's and up. |
Not a NYer but Chicago has similar winters. I just shovel a little area for them to go in the snow and when it's really cold they just run out and do their thing. Welcome back!! |
i am from ny and martini is always bundeled up in a jacket and blanket...she gets cold but its to and from the car and house...she is trained on pads in the house for this reason,...but i always see other pp walkin their yorkies in the winter and we really dont get alot of snow |
