I cant control the fleas!!!!!! Everytime I look, my dogs still have fleas. I think it is like an epidemic this year. The frontline is NOT working :( |
my vet stop carrying frontline cause it doesnt work they switched me to advantix works so far no fleas on them but i still have bites :( |
We have been using advantage, and still have fleas too. This is the first year that I am having this problem. I clean their bedding constantly and vacuum everyday. |
I am surrounded by outside dogs on each side of my backyard so getting rid of fleas in my yard is completely futile. I hate this. Poor doggies. |
you should flea bomb your house and wash all the sheets and throw out all vaccuum bags |
I live in a rural area, it seems that no matter how much we spray our yard and bom our house, they come back quite quickly. There are just too many animals outside around us I guess |
Oh, I would HATE that!!!!! I've just been giving mine the Brewers Yeast with garlic (no frontline or collars) and I don't have any fleas. I hope I don't get them now that I have said it (kind of) outloud. Treating them is one thing, getting rid of them is another! I wish you much luck! |
My husband is in the automotive parts line and believe this or not he sells this product called orange scrubber, Its all natural and it claims to rid dogs and cats of fleas... I have used it and thank God Bell doesn't have any.. And I live in FLorida where they can live outside all year around!! |
I am very careful about fleas because i dont want them to get a foothold ...... i use advantage, a problem with some medications is that the fleas become immune to the pesticide after prolonged exposure over several flea generations, it has been advised to switch month to month between two different brands |
You can try this for your house. Get some old fashioned Borax, sprinkle it on your carpet and use a broom to get it down to the base of the fibers. Wait a day and then vacuum. It won't hurt your dog and it kills the fleas. I would do that once a week for 2 weeks( to get rid of any eggs that hatch) and then once a month. It is inexpensive and the fleas in your house will die. Then you can carry on with your regular flea program with maybe better success. This was told to me by a man that ran a company that did monthly treatments at the beach condos where I lived. It is he said, the same thing. If you have fleas in your home you will never get rid of them on your dogs. Good luck!!! |
we are having the same flee problem... nugget didnt have them till we went to the dog park :( great advice from you guys, thanks :) |
To get some flea control you can spray beneficial nematodes on your yard. They won't kill the adult fleas but they will eat the eggs/larvae and so you won't have flea colonies in the grass - they will also eat fire ant eggs so you won't have those mounds in the yard either and you won't have to use harmful chemicals. Beneficial nematodes are microscopic organisms that live in the soil. You can get them at any garden center that carries organic products. You must follow the application instructions, exactly, and you must water your yard every day or so for the next 2-3 weeks after application. Also, for the fleas that will come into your yard from the neighbors' yards with animals - sprinkle diatomaceous earth all around the perimeter for about a foot out from the fence. Diatomaceous earth is ground up sea shells and when the fleas walk through it or land on it, it cuts their legs and they die. I know, I know, it sounds wierd - but I have been using these two products for years and my fleas are completely controlled - and before using, I had them all the time. You can get the diatomaceous earth at the same garden center that carries organic products. Of course, you will have to repeat the DE every time it rains - but a bag is pretty inexpensive and lasts a long time. (The beneficial nematodes will live for a couple of years if you live in the south where the winters are mild. If you live farther north, you will have to apply them every spring - but they will live all summer, and fall, till it gets cold. DE also works to sprinkle on plants where bugs are eating the leaves - those little buggers will be gone in a flash without harmful chemicals. The borax carpet treatment also works for the ones that may get into the house. |
They are a nightmare down here this year because it's so dry. I'm giving her Sentinel and I spray the house with that flea spray that kills the eggs, and I'm spraying the front porch and the carport where we come in and out of. The Sentinel is a once a month one that kills fleas, ticks, heartworms. (She won't take the daily ones at all). When we go visiting, I put Advantix on her too because the people we visit have dogs and cats and they are in and out all the time. I call it the summer flea war down here. |
Rowdys mom, Thanks for that great info!! I am definitly going to try that for those ants!!! I have bought those predator wasps for flies before and they work really well!! Sadly my boyfriend is scared of anything that goes BZZZZZ so I didn't do it again. I got tired of seeing the "bee dance" every day. |
Rosi is on Frontline plus, and she has no Fleas !!!! |
