Can i watch my groomer ? Is it ok to watch the groomer work? |
I think it is a good thing to watch the groomer because you know what is going on and could stop them if they are doing something wrong before its too late. I mean we watch our hair stylists to see what they are doing. You are the one paying so you should be able to see what is going on. But unfortunately most groomers don't let you watch and have the drop off pick up system. Just make sure you trust the groomer will do what is asked. I have heard lots of stories here about bad groomers so you need to be very selective. I am glad I found a groomer that lets me watch. I tell her what I want as she is doing it and we work together to achieve the look I like. |
Mine will let you but some say the dog is not as calm when the owner is there and wont let you. |
The only problem is that dog is distracted and wants to look at you and go to you, making it dificult for the groomer to do their job. :) |
Groomers always suggest (to me) to come back and pick her up, but I usually stay... But they don't usually let me watch... I haven't taken her to any groomers for long time now.. but if I do, I will ask them to let me be there watch!!! :) |
It does make it more difficult for the groomer but I personally would never just drop my dog off if I didn't trust the groomer. That is a good way for abuse and neglect to happen. If I couldn't watch every step, I wouldn't go there. I would equate it with leaving your child at a hair salon for a couple hours with strangers. |
fee I never had a problem with the client watching..if they wanted to be in the room, the fee was double..if they wanted to watch from a small opening in a doorway where the dog could not see them, then the price was a normal fee..after a few watched it got boring, they went and did their shopping, appts etc...most Yorkies are angels when mom is not there...a 2 hr groom suddenly becomes a one hour groom...and that is from start to finish.... PS..it is much less stressful when the owner leaves..the grooming goes fast, the dog is not upset wanting to get to mom and we have a nice visit, a treat and bit of play time...never had a Yorkie who didn't want to come see me and get groomed if mom left... |
I always stay and watch. |
I could never stay and watch, Lulu would be so troublesome since she always wants to come to me.... I have no choice but to drop her off... |
My groomer never minds when I want to stay to watch... And it made me feel all the more confortable being able to watch the first time. So, I was much better being able to leave her after that :) |

Laughed over that. My dogs would go insane if I stayed there and watched. When I go to pick them UP...they go insane when they hear my voice or see me. In my case...I know...leaving them there has got to be the best thing. |

The worst grooming stories come from those that have just dropped of a pup with a new groomer and return to a dog with a messed up cut. Its a little unfair to expect someone to put all their trust in a groomer they dont even know  Not to mention, some dogs act that much better with the owner there.... But, I do understand every case is different :) |
Haruka would be better if I were around.. she would behave better for sure. |
grooming There are all kinds of owners...I am sure none of YT members are difficult. Some act like I am performing surgery when clipping nails...they get so uptight, the Yorkie reacts and pulls back its foot 40 times...some start to yelp when it sees the clippers...but as God is my witness, if mom leaves the room, the Yorkie rarely reacts. These are smart dogs, they know what humans will react to their silliness.... I used to say..."MOM is gone" and they would do a "Yorkie" smirk, hand me their paw and I get a big kiss..these Yorkies are masters of manipulations!!! Mizbrown...you try grooming a Yorkie who is climbing up your arm trying to get to mom....all I ever groomed was Yorkies..I had a Yorkie spa..booked solid for months..so no owner ever was unhappy I guess. |
groomer I guess I should clarify myself...I was not the normal groomer in a Petsmart type place. I owned my own business...I picked my clients, they did not pick me. I realize that may sound snobbish, but it is what it is...no one cam e to me if they had the slightest bit of mistrust...I would cut off my own finger before cutting a Yorkie... |
