Pet Stores Ok - I think the consensus is pretty clear about how we all feel regarding pet stores, and we all know that they are pretty much what keep puppymills going... I feel the same as everyone else, I don't like them at all and refuse to support them in anyway, shape or form. But my question/thought is what about those poor puppies/animals that get caught in there?? It's no fault of their own that that's where they ended up and they deserve loving, nuturing homes just like our own dogs... It drives me crazy thinking about how they ended up there and because we don't want to support the mills, we don't give them a chance too. Am I the only one who feels like this? And what can we do to help them have a fighting chance at finding a good home to people that can love, take care of them & spoil them compared to people who don't always know what they are getting into and plop down the cash??? It breaks my heart that they're in there! |
I feel the same way. but you cant save them all and it we go in there and get what we can because we feel bad for them, the puppy mill might just produce 5 more of that breed and we just helped support them by feeling bad......... I know how bad that sounds and thats why I dont go anywhere near those store, Because if I do, I am going to feel bad for one, and want to rescue it and my heart will hurt that much more............ |
I know it is heartbreaking but it is up to us that know these puppies come from puppymills to not buy puppies from pet shops and to educate others not to. Someone who doesnt know or care about puppy mills will buy those puppies and the cycle continues. My State is having a peaceful rally against puppymills in July and I am planning on going. It is the first one Ive been to so I dont know what to expect |
But buying one of those puppies only opens up that cage for another. The petstores and puppymills don't care why you are buying them...they just want to sell them so they can keep making money. I feel like if you buy a few of them, all you are doing is condeming thousands of others to a life of misery in puppymills. I feel like we have to say No to those few we see in petstores in order to do what is best for ALL DOGS in this world. If we'd all just say NO to petstores then they would all go out of business and puppymills would stop breeding. Most of those unsold puppies would be taken to shelters and rescue groups where they could be adopted for minimal fees to loving homes..instead of sold for hundreds-thousands of dollars and creating suffering for others. |
What is the most upsetting is how many stories you hear of people coming home with sick dogs because they were on temporary medicine at the pet store so they didn't look so ill. What I worry about is what about the dogs who aren't "cute" etc. what do they do with them? It's something I am always thinking about. |
I think the best way to handle the puppy mills is if you see a situation to call it in and have them picked up. Maybe if we all watch and get these places shut down repeatedly. They will finally give it up. I know that one guy is stealing dogs at some of these pet areas and walking out of the business and selling the dogs. The banker I guess was really wondering about him and him stating he was getting in the dog business. Its kinda funny that he had his picture taken in there a few months before with another dog he came into the place with and the owner took a picture of him and the dog. Because it looked like a dog they had raised. Surprisenly that the owner had forgot to download the camer and when she did she seen this old picture of the guy that stole the dog a few weeks ago from there store. Now they are on there way to get him. Can you believe what all is happening? I think times will get worse and there will be more stealing with the prices of items we need. Its sad it has to be this way. I hate the puppy mills and the breeding practice they do. Its not the puppies fault. |

I went into a pet store today to pick up some dog food for my grandfather's schnauzer. They had 2 CKC registered "teacup" yorkies for sale. These puppies where 8 weeks old and already looked to be about 3lbs. They where both laying in their food bowl asleep even when people stopped to talk to them they were not active at all. The price was $999. I have a friend that has been raising AKC yorkies for 20yrs. Her dogs have all of the health tests done (she works for a vet) and are Champion sired with a pedigree full of champions. She gets $500 for her males and $700 for females (which is about the average in my area). If the people that buy these pet store puppies would take any time at all to do their reseach they would realize they are getting ripped! I feel sorry for the puppies, but that is just crazy! |

I feel the same way.. but to be honest, I think puppy mills will always be there.. because there are always people who buy from there to safe dogs.. Thats what i think.. i do think also we need to stand up against them and hopefully spread the rumor about the puppy mills.. People like oprah are definitly havoing good influence on people,. cause alot of people whats her.. so alot of people open their eyes too about the stupidity and sadness and horrible conditions for dogs in puppy mills. x |
