Tawny's First Vet Visit! I'm definitely going to need the support and help of my YT family! Tawny's official weight is 1 lb 12 ozs. She is actually 4 1/2 weeks old! (UGH! The nerve of some people! I got mad all over again!) She has/had hook worms and possibly tape worms. :( They gave her a pill to kill all types of worms. Her heart and lungs sounded really good! I think they found maybe 5 fleas on her and they were all dead! No more fleas! YAY! :D All total count of fleas on my baby girl was 165! (and yes I did count each one, even the ones that fell off in the 2 baths that she had to have.) The vet did tell me that if I hadn't taken her when I did and help get those fleas off of her and got her seen. She more than likely wouldn't have made it to next week. He said with the hook worms and fleas combined she lost alot of blood and nuturition. I have to give her nutrical every 4 hours when I feed her the milk supplement. He said just a dab on the tip of my finger should do it. He said do that for a week, then the next week just a dab once a day. He said to continue to give her 1/4 of a capstar pill every other day until that pill is gone. He said for me to keep her and Little Man way from each others feces until we know for sure the hook worms are gone and to bring her back in 3 weeks for her second set of shots! Wish me luck because I have a few long and hard weeks a head of me! |
Oh my gawsh! Good luck with your little one. It still amazes me what some people will do. All those fleas and worms...:( At least she has a good home now!! |
awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww that makes me sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo ooooooooooooooooooo sad! and MAD!!! how can you do that to a poor innocent little baby puppy??? Im sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo glad you got her.... good luck with getting her back to health and Im sure she will be good now that she has you! and you love her unconditionally!!! if you ever need to talk to anyone pm me and I will give you a call or you can call me! ;) |
Did she really get shots at four weeks old? |
Thanks! It just makes me mad too. I'm definitely on an emotional roller coaster today! :( I don't understand some people. I feel that she was actually dying when I got her. On the way home last night she threw up 6 times and very lethargic. Now I think she will be ok! |
good luck, my Lily was very sick when I got her and she is great now so their is light at the end of the tunnel. |
So glad you got that poor little puppy when you did! Good luck for the next few weeks...im sure you will do your best to take good care of her! I will keep her in my prayers!:D |
I am so glad you have her! My little Bean was about a pound when I rescued her from the shelter - she had kennel cough, ear and eye infection, malnutrition and was extremely hypoglycemic. With a lot of love and a ton of research, she is now a 9 month old ball of energy. I feel so blessed she survived. These tiny miracles need people who give lots and lots of love! |
Glad she is doing better. TLC sure makes a big difference. |

Now that I had time to think about things, I think since she was so malnourished her teeth really hadn't really developed like they were suppose to. I think that's where he got that she was 4 1/2 weeks old. She looks to me like she is 4 weeks old with her being so tiny. But now her brother looked like he was 5 to 6 weeks old. He was so much bigger than she was. I'm just glad I went a head and took her that I know she is being taken care of and she can be spoiled. :D I hope and pray none of you see as many fleas on a baby as I have. It will just tear and break your heart. I just cried while I was bathing her and pickin those fleas off of her. If my MIL hadn't been here with me last night while I was giving her a bath, I would have said a few more choice words that is very unlady like. |
You and Tawny will be in my prayers. Please report that breeder!:thumbdown All there dogs should be taken away! |
OMGoodness! That poor little baby! I suppose that maybe it was a blessing that you brought her home and got her the care she needs even with her young age. How sad that she had such a ruff start. Good luck with her. |
:aimeeyork You have a very young, baby on your hands. Is she fully weaned? Or eating food yet? It does sound like if you did not get her when you did she would have died.:aimeeyork I think the vet gave her shots anyway, because of being in such a high risk of catching viruses .She was not from a good home. :aimeeyork However, there a a high chance that the vaccines will not work . IF the mother's immunity blocks out the vaccines, this is going to be ineffective. Poor little puppy was so infested with fleas, and worms:( I am glad she is in good hands now .Congradulations! :aimeeyork |
No she\'s not weaned. I\'m weaning her myself. One feeding I\'ll bottle feed her and the next feeding I\'ll give her some grinded, mashed up puppy food mixed with water. She will drink alot the milk supplement and then when she\'s done she will cough. But when she licks the mashed puppy food, she goes to town on that too. I think she was partially weaned, but not all the way. |
