disinfecting about a week ago my jozy died of giardia and isospora......i want to disinfect my home......i mean the tile and carpet....because the breeder gave me another puppy......to replace jozy....what should i do? |
bleach and proactive meds Hi, as I'm sure you know, isospora is a form of coccidiosis and usually, if one pup from a breeder ALL dogs have it even if they test negative. Therefore, the most important thing you should do is treat your new baby with it, even before she shows any signs. Often, when a tint pup starts showing signs, it has already taken a huge toll on the tiny body. PLEASE BE PROACTIVE. It usually takes at least 7 days for coccidiosis to show signs. The germs for this stay active for at least a month and bleach is the only thing to kill it, but have to leave the bleach on your floor, walls, bedding, dishes, leashes, toys etc, for at least 10 min for it to be effective. I think you will just to keep your baby off the carpets until a month has passed unless you want bleached out rugs though. As far as giardia goes, all dogs from the breeder probably have this as well. The same kinds of bleach disinfection is necessary. And once again, it can remain in the environment foe at least a month, and your new pup should be treated or it even before showing signs. Stress really can make both these parasites effect the pup harder as well. I hate to ask, but are you sure the breeder is not a mill? To have a pup die of this probably indicates very poor sanitation on the part of the breeder. Giardia in Dogs Coccidia - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia |
i dont think its a mill.....but im not sure.......this puppy is from a different litter.... |

Bad things do happen to good breeders too, all it takes is for a germ to come in on someone's shoes and the dogs are carriers or sick. I hope your new pup does great, is it a boy or girl? It must have been absolutely heartbreaking to lose your Jozy, my heart goes out to you. |
I'm sorry about your baby:( hopefully your new one will be ok! Bleach is the best way to disinfect stuff! Dillute some bleach with water and wash your floors with it, you can also put a small amount of bleach in a carpet cleaner and use that for your carpets. Sorry I don't know the ratios to tell you for how much to mix. |
I think ammonia is the best chemical to use for both. I don't want to scare you but Giardia is not something to take lightly. Humans can get it! Please read the articles below and consider returning the new baby that you have. You really have to take steps to rid your house of all contamination. I feel so bad for you. I don't want to see your heart broken again. I don't know how any breeder could send you home with another baby after telling her what your baby had. Even if it's from another litter - they all could have been subjected to it. Not to mention that she sold Jozy to you at an incredibly young age that no good breeder would do. :thumbdown Please read as much as can about all of this.
