My baby is not eating - please help! I just brought my Lola home from the breeder on Thursday morning. She is 7 months old and a very sweet girl. I am really worried because she has been with me for the past 5 days and has only eaten two times. I am feeding her the same food that the breeder was giving her but she is not interested really. I asked the breeder if I should change the food and she told me I should not and that Lola will eat at her own time. Lola loves to be held but seems to be very sad. She does not want to play (she is still a puppy) so, should I be worried? I am taking her to the vet next week for a pre-spaying consultation. Should I maybe go sooner? Has anyone else experienced this behavior when bringing their puppies home for the first time? Is this a normal behavior that will go away with time? Thanks for sharing. :-) |
poor sweet girl. It has ONLY been 5 days and she has been with her breeder for 7 months (compared to the 3 months most of us got ours at) so she had THAT Much longer to bond with "mom". Give her time. The way i can tell if Layla is sick is.. will she eat a treat :p if she does.. all is good :p check her gums.. if they are white she needs nutrical or karo syrup or honey. What is the food she is eating? give her time... she'll come around... |
I bought her some yogurt drops and she loves them, but I can't give her too much of that. She is drinking water and her gums look fine. It just breaks my heart to see her so sad. I feel so guilty |
When we got our doxie Spike as an adult, he moped around for a while, but finally warmed up to us. He also picked at his food for a while. He came from a good home, but my husbands uncle couldn't keep him. We have had him for a year now, and he is a very happy dog. :) The treat thing is a good idea. I actually do that when mine get finicky. I usually give them liver treats or a tiny peice of boiled chicken. Have you tried toys? Like balls, ropes, and squeakys? My baby Triss LOVES squeakys! Her favorite is this akc brand rabbit squeaky. Maybe get down on the floor and squeak a toy around her then hide it behind you? See if it gets her attention. |
sounds like she is just adjusting to the new situation |
I'm sure she is fine, but I'm a bit of a worry wart, so I would move up the Vet appointment just to be on the safe side. |
