He Doesn't Even Want to Sleep in My Bed!!
 

I always thought that it was a treat for dogs to get to sleep in their owner's bed, but Linus doesn't even want to sleep with me! Now that he is big enough to jump off the bed, I've realized that he actually prefers to sleep by himself on the sofa!! Is anyone else's yorkie a loner? I'm trying not to be offended . . .

How old is he? I know how this feels and it's not the best feeling in the world. I may sound corny but I've always wanted to own a dog that would sleep with me in my bed. At first when Lilly was younger and was getting better with potty training we started allowing her to stay out at night and sleep with us, for a long time she'd lay down for a minute or two then either jump down and get in the floor or just sleep at the end of our bed. Now at almost a year old she sleeps RIGHT UP next to my stomach under the covers in a ball and won't do it any other way. So, just bear with him and hopefully he'll eventually adjust.

When I first got Alphy he would snuggle with me all night. Now he's up and down throughout the night. I think he gets hot. I always feel bad because it seems like he's not be able to get comfortable.

My monkey has slept with me from the first night I brought her home. That wasnt really my intention but that first night there was a thunderstorm and she was freaking out so I held her all night. I think that just like every person has their own sleping habits (cuddling/sleeping on the other side of the bed) so do dogs. Maybe he wakes up easily when you move or he gets hot at night. I think he may come around when he gets older or maybe by the winter....

My Sugar is normally a snuggle bug but when he wants to sleep, he wants to be left alone. He sleeps in his own bed on the floor next to my bed. I used to have his bed on the bench at the foot of my bed so he could sleep in my bed if he wanted to but he never did. In fact he likes sleeping so much that if I wake up too early for him, he will run under my bed so I can't disturb him.:rolleyes:

Spike and Gracie sleep in my daughter's bed. If she is spending the night out, they sleep in bed with me and my husband- even then Sugar wants nothing to do with it.

The funny thing is that during waking hours, Sugar is stuck to me like glue. He follows me everywhere and would prefer if I just held him all day.

We recently babysat 2 other dogs. Since then, Otis has started to sleep on top of some blankies on the floor beside the bed. I think the bed got a little too crowded for him. So now he starts up with me, but usually at some point through the nite he gets down there by himself.

My Schnauzer is the same way in the summer. She wants to be on the bed in the winter, but once it gets hot, she prefers the floor. Maybe your baby is just hot.

awww maybe is it too hot? princess doesnt wanna sleep around me when its too hot...

but maybe consider yourself lucky? at least u dont have a bed hog like mine.. she is so small but she manages to always try and push me off my queen sized bed!! :eek: i think she thinks its her bed now..

how long have you had linus? MAybe he does not know it is ok to sleep on the bed? :aimeeyork Or it is too hot for him. When I first got Suzi she was too little to jump on my bed, so I did not want her to go on my bed, then hurt herself trying to get down. She slept right next to me on the floor with a pillow for a couple of weeks. THEN she could just up on my bed. And now she sleeps there with me .She gets up with me and not before I do. Sometimes I'll sleep in but she is always right there with me. :aimeeyork I think it is a matter of preference. If Linus is very comfortable sleeping on the couch it seems like he feels like that is his bed. :aimeeyork He will change though, give him time and make sure is knows he can sleep on your bed too:aimeeyork

Thanks for all of the thoughts! Linus is about a year, and he defininitely knows he can sleep on my bed if he wants to. I'm not really offended though because I know he loves me ;) We take naps together, and he can be a little snuggler. He does get hot under the blankets on my bed, so I am thinking maybe he is just hot.

My poodle, Elivira, won't sleep on the bed with me anymore since she's gotten older. She wants to sleep under the bed. My yorkie, Rocky, sleeps on the bed with me but he won't cuddle. I think they used to fight once in awhile so I think they are happier sleeping this way. Makes me sort of sad, though.

Ranger won't sleep with me in the bed unless he's REALLY cold. Unlike you, it really does offend me!! It hurts my feelings, I know it shouldn't but I just want to cuddle with my baby. My poor hubby can't understand why I would rather cuddle Ranger than him!!

I know this thread is old but my feelings are beginning to be hurt by my Bella! She refuses to cuddle with me! She'd rather sleep on the edge of the bed or the foot! ��

ROFL Don't take it personally. You know it's not that she doesn't love you. Z usually does the same. But from time to time, she'll come up and cuddle besides me and so will M.

Oh.. and there are times when I "insist" they cuddle with me. LOL They'll tolerate it but will zoom off as soon as they're released. haha

I pulled her into my arms and tried to make her lie down with me. She growled a bit, got up, then laid down even further away! What nerve!

I got so lucky with my Teek. My husband told me when I brought him home that he was not sleeping in our bed. On the 3rd night my husband went to bed early and so I took out the dogs and closed up the house and did everything. I get downstairs and there is my husband playing video games. I told him I was going to get the new dog and let him curl up with me (I was still bonding with him) and that when we were ready for bed I would take him back to his crate. An hour later I fell asleep and when I woke up the next morning the dog was still there! He has slept with me every since.

When Teek gets hot he stretches himself out so he looks really long to cool off, but otherwise he is curled up in a tiny ball up against me and he has his own blanket on my bed to cover up with. My husband does not like him under the covers. He has slept under the covers 2 nights when I was worried about him and I kept him very close to me, wrapped in his own blanket and in my arms because of the bitter cold and our room is drafty. I am sure he would have been fine, but he was just so cold when I checked on him in the middle of the night that I just pulled him there. Once he is asleep he is out and I can pick him up and move him and he really doesn't stir.

I love that he sleeps with me and I hope it continues forever.

How about bribing? Give her a small treat when you pull her in to cuddle. :D

lol My Kimchi sometimes loves to sleep either in bed with me or on the floor near my bed where i have blankets and stuff for her to sleep on. If it's in the bed she sometimes get too hot and wants to get down, otherwise she likes having some space. I have a twin bed and if I don't make sure she's aligned with the bed and comfortable she'll want to sleep horizontal and that takes up most of the bed space and I'm on the edge :P Otherwise she likes to have the bed literally to herself alot of times, preferable with me to give her attention or sit near her.
If she's on the floor, I have to keep the door cracked enough for her to be able to go in and out of the room when she wants. ^^;; If I keep the door closed, she'll scratch and cry to get in or out.

Pao sleeps in his own massive bed on the floor right beside my bed. It is a bed for a medium sized dog but just nice for him as he likes to sprawl out on it and he is a pretty long dog.

I don't think he was very happy when he used to sleep in my bed. He growled at me when I move at night even if I did not touch him and sometimes he whines to want to get off the bed in the middle of the night. I think we just sleep better this way.

We do have a ritual before bed time-kisses and telling him he is a good boy every night or else he won't sleep.
