Advise on how to leave my baby alone Izzy is my new little baby. She just turned 9 weeks and we have had her since she was 6 weeks. We bought a baby play pen for her to sleep in (This is what my mom has for her Chi and she LOVES it) My question is how do I make her feel "safe" when she is at home alone in it? It has plenty of room for a few toys, her bed, water, food, and a pee pee pad. When I put her in it she is fine, but as soon as I leave her I can her her crying. It breaks my heart when I have to leave her. My husband and I work different times so the most she is ever in there for is 3 hours. Which she has played alot before so she would normally sleep. What can I do to help her stop crying?????? |
oh my, 9 weeks! She is so young, she may be crying because she hasn't learned the proper social skills due to you getting her at only 6 weeks. Was there any particular reason on getting her so young? |
She is a puppy - it is almost inevitable that she will cry. I can almost guarantee you that it's worse on you that it is on them. Just let her cry and eventually she will learn to love her playpen and enjoy her time alone. It sounds like you have everything covered! The only thing I would leave in addition to all that is maybe a worn t-shirt with your smell on it? However, I'll ask that you reconsider leaving her alone often until she is quite a bit older. 9 weeks in awfully young, a reputable breeder wouldn't let a puppy go until 12 weeks. I would constantly worry about hypoglycemia. |
I agree.. with both of you. I also will be careful about toys and play pens.. to just make sure that the pup doesn't get stuck with anything.... or her hair doesn't get caught on anything. I probably will take off Harness and leash.. I had a friend whose dog got stuck on something and almost died.. so I just tried to be careful. I also evaluate all the toys too... I also suggest that you leave the pup in the playpen when you are at home too.. for some time.. So it is not the place that she/he just goes when you are not there... but it becomes a safe place... |
I have a dog walker and it helps with the separation anxiety. |
She is still young, but that was when the lady we bought her from (Who is a VERY respected breeder in our area) said that she was ready. I have tried the worn clothes in the pen also. My husband comes home before me, and he said she is SOOOO exicted to see him when he come in! She is a very active and healthy little pup. It just breaks my heart to hear those cries....... |

Like I said.. they all cry. She will eventually learn. She's okay though, I promise. :) |
