Potty Training Help? Lexie Grace is 6 months old now and still uses my house as a Potty. I can take her outside in the morning and within 2 hours she goes again inside. As long as she plays outside she does great, but just as soon as she comes in - she goes. I have tried the potty bells and pads and neither works. Any suggestions? if she pees inside.. what do you do ?? And if she does pee outside you praise her with words and give her a treat ? Snickers is 6 months too. but he is fully potty trained.. it took me intensive training.. but he is not peeing, and he is a boy, so im lucky he doesnt mark. Let me know ok :) |

I just saw you tried the bells. Oh, well... You will really need to do one thing and not switch around. That will confuse her. |

It seems like my Tucker is mostly potty trained. He's 10 months old. I think if you just give her a little more time she'll get the hang of it. Even up to a month ago I was thinking that he would never be potty trained! But it will happen, just give her time, lots of patience and praise. When Tucker was inside the house I would keep him tethered to me on his leash or he would go in his crate. That way I could correct him if he pottied and at least know where the mess was so I could clean it up! |
Also when you see her doing it inside.. say with a louder voice and firm voice NO! and pick her up and put her outside right away so she knows she needs to do it outside. And dont confuse her to much with different methods .. I have 3 dogs and it worked for me. Also after she plays, sleeps pick her up and put her outside.. |
I used a food reward with both mine. They were both trained by 6 months. We have a big celebration "yeah!!!!" every time they do it right and give a tiny bite of turkey lunch meat. I think the positive reinforcement and turkey did it for mine. Zoey was a yr old in March and I still give her a treat sometimes just to reinforce. |
Yorkies are really hard to train!! It take lots of time and patience. When we were first working on potty training, I had read on here that it would take a year. It truely did!! My little guy will be a year old next week and I finally feel that he is potty training. It seemed that every time I though the was 'getting it' some thing would happen. He started maturing, was nutured, had an ear infection, we traveled, we had company..all of these thing set us back a bit. If you do a seach on potty training, you will find excellent ideas. |

Max is just over six months old and is potty trained. I knew to take him out whenever he started to sniff. I too used treats, Cheerios and dog chocolate. Now when he needs out he sits beside me with a particular look in his eyes. He hasn't needed out during the night or early morning for a couple of months now. I wonder if any of your furbabies do what Max has started to do. He wipes his paws on the grass, does a little dance, then he pees, looks at you and when you tell him he's clever, he does the little dance again. It's really quite amusing. :aimeeyork |
Great thread. I'm learning a lot for when my little one comes home. I'm glad you asked this question LexieGirl. :) C- |
My Myah is just over 6 months old and I can say she is 99% trained. If she does have a accident, it is because I wasn't paying enough attention to her and that is my fault not hers. I give treats and make a major big deal if she goes outside. The neighbors must think I'm crazy sometimes. I still do the same thing with my Bichon who is 4 from time to time. Consistency is the key. Always do the same thing. She'll get the hang of it. Just give her sometime. Make sure you are cleaning up with a product like Natures Miracle, so that there isn't any lingering odor. |
thanks for asking this question. my "Gabby" will be 6 months old on july 8th. she's not anywhere close to being potty trained. she does the same thing as your "Grace". I'll take her outside and she'll pee once or twice and then come in and within a small amount of time she'll pee on the carpet. it is so frustrating. she'll go a few days and never do it and then Bam! she'll do it for several days in a row. If I could stay home all day, i'm sure i could get her trained, but unfortunately i have to work. when i'm home i do the treat and praise thing but she still pees when and where she wants to. |
