Making Training Progress - so excited! I’ve been reading a new training book with some great tips and have been trying them out on Bridget. She’s 1 year old. I got her at 11 months, so for some training we’re basically starting from scratch. I can’t believe it’s only been a month, if feels like she’s been in my life forever! Anyway, we had a breakthrough today and I just have to share! This morning, we set out for our usual 6am walk. Leader leash, to my left side, and just behind me. Feet before paws. Little Miss Bridget stayed right at my side for the entire walk. She was so good! Did excellent “wait, sit and let’s go” at every curb! Each morning on our walk, we pass by the same (fairly large) dog and owner out for their walk. Bridget barks her head off as soon as the dog is in her sights. This morning mommy was the leader. I kept her to my side – quickened my pace and didn’t acknowledge the other dog. Bridget kept her pace right with me and only gave a few quick hello yaps at the other dog. I almost cried! When we were about a half block past them I gave her a “good Bridget, good girl” and a treat. From a half a block away, I hear the owner of the other dog call back. Good girl Bridget – good for you! Solid training commands and repetition does work wonders! I’m already looking forward to our walk tonight! Thanks for letting me share this with everyone – may sound a bit corny, but I’m thrilled to pieces! |
