Yorkie fights I need help!! We have Henry, a 6 year old 10 pound yorkie. About 2 months ago we adopted Scotty, 10 lbs, 9 months old now, from a yorkie rescue. Scotty, every once in a while for no apparent reason attacks Henry and starts a big fight. Scotty bites Henry, then it turns into a terrible fight and we have to pull the dogs a part and separate them. It is so awful! I have taken Scotty and pulled him down the ground and tell him no. Could Scotty be jealous of Henry? We give equal affection to both. Also, sometimes when Henry is eating, Scotty will just attack Henry for no reason, barking, biting and growling and snarling at him!! If anyone has any advice, I would so much appreciate it! I don't know what to do!! Thank you:aimeeyork |

Scotty wants to be the "top dog" (dominant male). I think he is fighting for that position. |
That's sad. I wonder if that is why he was in rescue? I hope it can be worked out. Henry is not a kid anymore and that isn't fair to him, either. I hope Scotty calms down. |
I went through that.. and ughhh! I hate to say it but sometime this just happens, and it is not always about socialization. Our Bridget and Monroe started the same this over a year ago, the fights became so vicious that we had to keep one dog in an xpen at all times, otherwise there were some serious injuries, they even got us once or twice as we tried to separate them. We tried everything from trying to let them have it out ( vets advice) to the Cesare milan books, to dog training, and nothing changed even after we spayed monroe. The last fight they had Monroe bit off a portion of Bridgets ear...I finally could not take it, they were fine with other dogs, just not each other. I ended up finding a new pet home for Monroe as I could not see keeping one dog locked up at all times for the rest of their lives, I hated it, and even though we changed out them a lot, it just seemed unfair to both of them. Sometimes there is just a personality conflict. I would try everything you can, but if it does not work, you need to protect them both and re home one of them. Perhaps a friend or family member would take one in if you needed??? I wish you luck, and I pray your outcome is better than mine!!! |
I have a similar situation. It doesn't happen all the time. Just when we pay attention to one, the other gets very upset and attacks him. They can be together all day and as long as we don't pay any particular attention to them it's fine. But if we do, watch out! One of our males also has a chunk out of his ear from such an attack. We would love to keep them both, but it is not fair for the one that is not aggressive that way. He loves to fetch and have us throw, but we can't do it unless the other one is in another room. It is just too hard. You want to be free to love on either or both, but it's not possible with the way it is. So we are currently looking for a home for one of our males. He is very sweet and has no problems with the girls, just our other boy. He gets very jealous. |
