New to breeding and looking for stud in FL I have a 2 yr old little AKC girl and I am interested in breeding her. I am very new to the registered breeding world and would love any tips. Does anyone know where I can look to find stud services in the South West FL area? Thanks for any help and I love that this site is available! |
Welcome to YT!!!!!!!!!! PLease, if you do not have a mentor, do a little research before you breed. It is a big responsiblity and one should be fairly knowledgable. How big is your girl? Do you know her bloodlines and how big were her ancestors? Is she a good reprsentative of the breed? Have you done all the health screening? Do you have the time and money in case you need a c=section or have to hand raise the littler? Are you willing to risk the life of your pet if there are complications? Therse are just a few questions you need to ask yourself before you even search out a stud. The same questions about health screening, quality, and size apply to the stud also. Hope this helps!! |
How big is your girl? Shes 7 pounds and very well put together Do you know her bloodlines and how big were her ancestors? she comes from a mother of 11 pounds and a father of 9 pounds. Is she a good representative of the breed? She has standard yorkie markings Have you done all the health screening? This is the stuff i wonder about. Do i just ask my vet for some sort of standard pre-breeding check-up? What about the stud i find, what paperwork do i need to see on him? Do you have the time and money in case you need a c=section or have to hand raise the littler? I am a Navy Officers wife (meening we have cash flow) and will spend any amount to save my dog or her puppies life. I am also a stay at home mommy and have the time to take care of my girl and any of her pups as necessary. Are you willing to risk the life of your pet if there are complications? I hate to think of this idea. I love my baby so very much, but much like a human giving birth, complications do happen and i will just have to understand that bad things do happen if it comes to that. I need to know more about health screening info, how to do the AKC registering stuff for puppies as a breeder, and how to find reputable breeders for the stud service in my area as well as what do i look for in a studs size and weight since my girl is so much smaller than her parents?? |

Go to a dog show in your area!! They are really fun to see and you might meet some good breeders there. You can look up shows on infodog.com. Also check out the breeders on YTCA in your area. Best of luck!!! |
Thank you, i'll give it a try! |

Good luck to you. It sounds like you are doing your best to go about things in the right way. I sincerely hope that you are able to find a mentor who will be there for you, to guide you, support you, cheer at your successes and cry with you when you suffer a loss. |
That would be nice. I just don't know any dog breeders and my area isn't thriving with dogs and breeders so i am finding that trying to get help around my area is very hard. I looked into that dogshow website and I think i will attend the next one in my area so that i can get to know the Yorkie Folk in my area. I still have a few months before my little girl will be ready to breed so i will use this time to gather my facts and prepare. |

Hi and Welcome to YT ..... got any pic's of the Mommy-to-be ??? |
These pics are from a few months ago. It was her first hair cut since the day before these pics were taken i had just moved back from living in Guantanamo Bay CUBA with her. I took her there when she was 2 1/2 months so i had never gotten the chance to have her clipped. The groomers did a BAD job. I asked for a puppy cut and this was what we got. Shes looking better now that its growing out. |
well i tried to add pics.. any tips on how i add the pics? |
i uploaded pics of muffin into my albums.. |
