alpha baby My 3 lb yorkie pushes around my 11 lb coton de tulear. He is the consummate gentleman. If he's getting attention and she comes up and growls he walks away. The same with food. He will actually sit next to his plate and wait till she's finished eating just in case she wants to poach his dinner. He always gets his bowl replenished so it's not a serious hardship but I'm worried about his future. My son will go off to college soon and my coton is his baby. He sleeps with him, sticks by him. Our Yorkie is my husband's and my little girl. She is by my side all day, sleeps on our bed. We even plan holidays around countries we can take her to and only take flights she can travel on. But I love my coton and I don't want him to feel left out and deserted when my son leaves. He's 9 and she's only 3 so it's not an age issue. This has been going on since we got her. I want to raise his status so she will at least let him sleep with us as well. Any suggestions? |
I was having this issue before I got Kingston, now Lily and Kingston keep each other busy. Before I got Kingston Lily would bully my 60lbs dog to the point he was depressed. The vet told me that I needed to put him higher in the family rank because he is older 10 or 11 and he was here first. So now he gets feed first and always walks in front of her on our walk. Also when she would bully him we would take her out of the situation to a different room. She learned that if she want to be with us she has to be nice to him, it did not take the problem go away completely but it helped a lot. |
