Room color I am building a room onto my home for my yorkies. I have 3 yorkies the room will be for them while I am gone from home. The room will be 10 X 20. I work so the dogs will spend a fair amount of time in there room. I wondered if anyone knew anything about how colors effect dogs. I know that certain color are to effect people in different ways, is this also true with dogs. The plan was white walls with White flooring with small pink flowers. Is this too much white??? Thanks Tauni |
I like blue because its peaceful! :) |
I have no color suggestions but having a room for your babies is such a great idea!! |
I agree............blue, maybe even a soft lavendar. I don't know about dogs and color either, but I would still make the room look fun and colorful. Maybe even a mural? |
Cool idea. I would pick bright colors that you like because it is a play room. Most pups are color blind so the color would be more for you than the pups anyway. Are you going to furnish the room with slides, sand box, etc.? |
Dogs cannot see color, so I do not think it will matter very much...Extensive scientific testing on dogs supports the conclusion that they live in a colorless world. The testing done primarily focussed on the dogs' responses to colors for food. Dogs could not tell the difference between one color, a signal for food, and other colors, that were not for food. Similar tests conducted on cats produced similar results, which led scientists to conclude that they, too, are colorblind and live in a gray world. |
Blues and Greens will be calming colors. Red and orange are hot colors that may make the separation harder on them. Dogs are not color blind they just see colors dimmer than we do. The room just for your dogs is great. My Asia has taken over my breakfast nook. It's her own little room. |

Actually you will be able to use dry easre markers on the wall board. So that would be possible. The only problem there is I don't have the artistic talent. Stencils would be a possibility though. |

No white floors Please rethink white floors. They are too hard to keep clean. I know I have been there. We finally changed it out. |

Actually I will be using a childs crib for their bed. I will put the mattress at the lowest position. Then I am going to remove a wrung from the front and build a ramp of course it will have a large bumper pad so no heads get stuck!!! Tauni |
How do see color 1 Attachment(s) Here is something slighty off subject but here is what color your dog see vs what you see. |

Is that because they go outside to potty??? Mine are paper trained so they only go out to play when I take them out. |

WOW!!!! So for them to see colors they must be very bright. That is good I love bright colors. |
...So, to maximize an object's visibility to a dog, we should strive to combine: (1) moderate motion (when feasible); (2) maximal contrast (a dark and white pattern unlike that of the background scene); and (3) stand-out color (one that is identifiable by dogs and does not occur very often in the background scene). The best of all possible worlds for most background scenes would be boldly-patterned Bright Purple and White objects. http://www.puplife.com/dogcaretips/h...seecolors.html I found the above info. Hope it helps some! :D |
