Knees I took Syd to the vet this weekend. I posted before that she had injured her back leg on July 4th. Well a month had elapsed and she was still limping every once and awhile. I just switched vets so this was the first time that Syd had seen the new vet. The good news is that my new vet is awesome. The bad news is that Sydney's back knees (both sides) are sliding back and forth and coming dislocated and relocated when she walks. I know that this is a part of the breed and that it is very common. Do any of you have experience with this that you can share? The vet told me to start her on Glucosamine (sp?) and that she needs to swim for 10 minutes 2 times a week. We had our first swimming lesson on Saturday...in the bathtub. It just seems so horrable that she has this problem already...she's only 8 months. :( |
It sounds like your dog has luxated patella (dislocation of the knee cap). My Codie had this problem but since the operation he's doing GREAT! |

Yes, sounds like luxating patella. If she got it from an injury, it will be more probmatic (sp?), anyway, you will have more problems. If she was born with it, it is considered Level 1 and you may never see problems with Level 1. The small breeds such as Toy Poodles, Chi's, Yorkies, and one other breed are very prone to it. Not all vets check for it when the original owner takes them for the check up. Hope all goes well for her and you! :) |
