When I went to pick my staff pup (5 years ago!) I had spoken to the breeder before hand and he said he had dogs and bitches some black and some red! I went with the idea that I was getting a black dog and came home with a red and white bitch!!! Just go with an open mind and spend as much time as you can with the pups (within reason of course!) If one of them doesn't pick you, you're bound to "feel" a pull towards one in particular! Good luck!!! P.S. I have a bitch yorkie and she is sooo cuddly but she is not clingy, she is happy to play/sleep on her own! |
boys or girls We've spent a lot of time on this very question and I often have buyers who are very sure what they want until they have a chance to read over our info.... With that, take a moment and read over the link I've posted. It will direct you to a specific page in our site that discusses the pros and cons of each sex as well as common myths associated with each..... South East Texas Yorkies - Choosing a Puppy |
I would definitely go with the one that "picked me" out. Mufasa picked me out and he happened to be a boy. He is soooooooooooooooo cuddly and CLINGY........oh my heavens I can't go anywhere without him. He even gets in the shower with me at night. Pretty bad huh? Ha! He has to be near me but he likes to stretch out when he sleeps so he tends to sleep close to me and not necessarily ON me. I love him so much and can't imagine my life without him!!!!! I'd love to get another one. Mufasa actually has a brother that I tried to convince my hubby to get but he was a no go on that! HA You really will LOVE whatever you decide to get. I hope this helps! |

She likes lots of cuddles. She likes to go to bed with us and cuddle up. She likes to be carried about! She sits by my feet if I am at the pc/desk working. (where she is right now!) When I hang the washing out...she is there by my feet. She is a real clingy little girl.:aimeeyork |
Look at it this way.... Do you want to buy cute pink dresses and bows in every color? Or do you want to buy vests with matching belly bands? I love both....but sometimes I get tired of changing the belly bands!!:( |
Don't torture yourself over this................make the decision easy, get one of each!!!:aimeeyork:aimeeyork:D |

PINK FOR ME PLEASE BUT I DO LOVE MY MAX |
we chose a girl because we have always owned female dogs. We aren't crazy about boy dogs "marking" and their "sexual urges" lol shall we say :p |
When you go to pick out a puppy, why not let the puppy pick you instead?;) |
Male dogs will not mark if you have them neutered early enough. |
I have only had the one...and she is such a cuddler....she loves to cuddle and sleep under my neck....I wanted a girl b/c I wanted to be able to dress her up....and I would love to get another little girl....I guess b/c I have a houseful of sons (5) and only two daughters...I want more girls!! Girls rule Boys drool!! LOL |
Boys vs. Girls I have 3 Yorkie's, my Sweet Heart is definetly my Boy Artie. He reads my mind I don't even have to speak to him and he understands English, Filipino and Japanese word commands as well as hand signals. He's just more in tune to me and is eager to please me just to make me Happy. He's very affectionate and cuddles & kisses all the time and if you cough or sneeze he runs to you and Kisses you as if that's going to help and revive you some how? He will go any where and every where with me just to be by my side. I'm sure he would do anything for me, but my 2 girls Abigail and their daughter Pom Pom, are very independent and even aloof and distant at times. I even wonder if their Happy living with me? It seems like their doing me a favor by acknowledging my existence. They are more stubborn and try my patience and talk about "Attitude"! They are all well Trained & Socialized, so I can't say that one sex is smarter than the other b/c they are all very Intelligent. They don't "Mark" at all, I would not tolerate that so I have Trained them not to. So I will always vote for a Boy, Boys usually bond better with Women, and Girls to Men. I think it's a Female Competition Thing? I dress both in Politically Correct Colors & Styles, my Girls hate wearing a Top- knot but will do it when their going to a Party or visiting Friends, their bangs are trimmed short, so you can see their eyes all the time. Artie wears a Topknot with a coordinating bow, depending on his outfit? His Tail is braided with a small bell or ornament as a decoration. Regardless of what Sex you decide on, please make sure you get them Spayed or Nuetered! It makes such a big difference on their Temperment & Personality, ever since I had him done he is an absolute "Angel", Good Luck! My Artie on the other hand wears a Topknot |
I love my boy! My advise is to visit several different litters and interview the breeders. Meet the parents and watch their personalities. It was very important for me to have a dog that was more laid back and loving. I found a breeder whose doggie parents were exactly that. They didn't bark too much, were friendly, outgoing, laid back, and fine around my then four-year-old. While visiting this litter, I found my Tucker! Not because he was a boy or girl, but because he sat on our laps and cuddled the whole time! Also, you could tell that his brother was the dominant one and I didn't want to go there! Tucker is still much the same now. He's friendly, good with kids and submissive to other dogs and to us ( he rolls over on his belly and backs his booty up to other dogs when he first meets them!) He was neutered at 6 months. I have no problems with marking or humping. He is always under my feet and has to be in whatever room I am in. He won't always lay on my lap, but he always wants to be near me. I love him and couldn't ask for a better doggie! |
I've yet to get my baby girl Yorkie but we have had dogs of both sexes and different breeds. I can't remember any that were not cuddly at least some of the time. Our last female, a yellow lab, was VERY loving and clingy. Of my two male dogs, the bichon is a piece of velcro and the poodle is very independent like the female yorkies some describe here. No matter we love each and every one for their individual personalities. |
