Not a Happy Camper!!! Last week a friends came over to visit with their male yorkie. They come often and the babies all play and have a good time. Well, we were eating dinner, boiled crawfish, and we heard one yelp...well it was Charlie, he and Jolie were locked! We had no clue that she was in heat! She just had puppies in Feburary and I had been checking her to see if she bleeding but nothing. Well, today I noticed she was because I put a panty on her. It isn't much....I am sure she is going to have another litter. We did not want to breed her again until a year of two. I am so bummed cuz of this. I hope and pray all goes well if she ends up preggo. Now it is the waiting game. Not fun. Oh well....thanks for letting me get this off my chest. :aimeeyork |

Not Happy! Well, it is not good for her body...I mean she just had a litter...I pray nothing happens to her. I hope some breeders coment to tell me what may happen since it is happening so soon.:animal-pa |
Females can be bred in successive heats but it all depends on the mother and how stressful her prior litter was on her and how well she's bounced back from it. No female, in any case, should be bred on more than two successive heats though without a well deserved rest. You can't un-do what's been done but just makes sure she gets gets a high quality diet. I would also have her on a multi-vitamin and lately I've become a big fan of using flaxseed oil as a supplement. It's mostly known as being great for the skin and coat but has many other health benefits and is a very safe supplement. :aimeeyork :animal-pa :animal-pa :animal-pa :animal-pa :) |

Produts I still have her on puppy food and she keeps gaining weight...not good. Should I just give her half puppy food and half reg food? Where do I buy the flaxseed oil and should I go to petsmart for the vitamin?? A :aimeeyorkmulti-vitamin?? |
Mine usually have a little weight gain following a litter until they start being more active. They eat more while nursing so it can take a while to get them back into their routine. I don't feed mine puppy food while pregnant because in the brand I use (Drs. Foster & Smith's) there isn't much difference in the adult and puppy except a bit more fat. When they get farther along in the pregnancy, I give them more canned food as their appetite goes up. I think any good multi-vitamin for dogs would be good although some are formulated for pregnant bitches. The flaxseed oil to me is a very good supplement to use. I get mine from Revival Animal Health for $7.50 for a 16 oz. bottle. Puritan's Pride vitamins also has it and has a good sale on now. The dosage I've seen is 1 tsp daily per 10 pounds of body weight. I've read that pregnant dogs should be given more but that would be up to you. I give mine slightly less than the recommended dose and have seen good results. If you get the oil for her, start with a reduced dosage for a few days to avoid loose stools. :aimeeyork :animal-pa :animal-pa :animal-pa :animal-pa :) |
